Lieutenant Colonel Braxton H. Mashburn
Commanding Officer
1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment

Lieutenant Colonel Braxton Mashburn, a native of Memphis, TN, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 2005.  After graduating from The Basic School and the Infantry Officers Course, he served as rifle platoon commander and assistant operations officer with 1st Battalion, 2d Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC.  Additionally, he was assigned to Headquarters Company, 6th Marine Regiment as executive officer and company commander.  During this period, he deployed twice to Al Anbar, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn transferred to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry - East in October 2009 where he served as company commander and operations officer. During this period, he completed Expeditionary Warfare School and was selected to attend Maneuver Captain Career Course (MCCC) at the Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence in Fort Benning, GA.  Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn completed MCCC in March 2012 where he received the Ralph Puckett Leadership Award.
 
In March 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines as commander of Headquarters and Service Company and completed a deployment in support of the 15th MEU, serving as the Battalion Landing Team's senior member aboard the Amphibious Readiness Group's command ship.  In June 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn took command of Company I (Mechanized), 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines and completed a deployment in support of the 31st MEU.
 
In October 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn was selected for resident intermediate level professional military education, and in January 2015, he chose to leave active duty as part of the voluntary separations program.  From this time until his end of active service, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn served as information operations officer and Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluation (MCCRE) lead planner for 5th Marine Regiment.  In June 2015, he completed Marine Corps Command and Staff College.  
 
In September 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn joined 1st Battalion, 24th Marines under the Direct Affiliation Program and has held numerous billets, some simultaneously, since that time, including assistant operations officer, exercise controller/lead planner, operations officer, adjutant, and executive officer.  In 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn completed a deployment as the deputy OIC, Georgia Training Team, Georgia Deployment Program, Resolute Support Mission.  While deployed, 1/24 leadership requested that Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn return to the unit to resume service in key billets.  In late 2020, he transferred to 4th Marine Division to serve as exercise planner in the G-3/5.

In November 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn completed the Joint Combined Warfighting Seminar - Hybrid as a student at the Joint Forces Staff College.  He has planned, supported, and executed numerous annual training exercises as a reservist, including Integrated Training Exercise, Nordic Frost, Mountain Training Exercise, and African Lion.  

Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. He holds a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources and Sustainable Systems and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan.  In the civilian sector, he has served in numerous industries as a strategy consultant and currently serves as a general manager in the waste management industry in the Detroit metropolitan area.
  
Lieutenant Colonel Mashburn's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
