Sergeant Major Tran serves as the Battalion Senior Enlisted Leader for Combat Logistics Battalion 23, Combat Logistics Regiment 4, Fort Lewis Mcchord, Washington. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in February 1999 and graduated from 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Ca in August 1999.
In September 1999, Private First Class Tran reported to the United States Army Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Training Center in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. In December 1999, he completed the Army NBC Course. He then received the Military Occupational Specialty 5711 Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defense Specialist.
In January 2000, Private First Class Tran received orders to H&S Co, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Camp Pendleton, Ca.
In February 2003 he deployed as a Corporal in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Task Force Tarawa as a rifleman, machine gunner, team leader and personal security detachment. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Trojan Horse and participated in Task Force Scorpion and Task force Tarawa. In 2004, prior to executing orders from 4th LAR he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
April 2008 Sergeant Tran reported to the Security Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. He served as an instructor for Military Occupational Specialty of 5811, Military Police, and was a member of the detachment’s shooting team, participating in the Western Division Shooting Competition.
In June 2010, Sergeant Tran received orders to I Marine Expeditionary Force Camp Pendleton, Ca and served as a CBRN Specialist and Rifleman. In June 2010 he was transferred to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Twenty, Nine Palms, CA. He deployed to Helman Provence, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. and served as a Police Mentor for the Police Mentoring Team, team leader, machine gunner and rifleman.
November 2011 he returned to I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton CA and promoted to Staff Sergeant and served as the CBRN SNCO and received the Military Occupational Specialty 5769 Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Defense Chief.
In January 2013, Staff Sergeant Tran mobilized and reported to Marine Forces Pacific Command aboard Camp Smith, HI. During his time with MARFORPAC, he served as the Command Operation Center Watch SNCO and Watch Chief, participated in numerous exercises and operations throughout Southeast Asia. These exercises and operations included Ulchi-Freedom Guardian, Talisman Saber, RIMPAC and Operation Damayan.
In November 2014 he graduated from the United States Army Airborne School.
September 2016 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served as the Theater Operations Watch Chief until he was transferred to the Environmental Services Detachment located at Luke Air Force Base, AZ. Gunnery Sergeant Tran served as an Environmental Services Technician and detachment Company Gunny participating in several joint operations including Talisman Saber and IRT Kodiak Artic Care.
In November 2018 returned to Marine Force Pacific Command Camp Smith, Hi. He served as Crisis Action Team Operations Chief. In April of 2020, he was frocked to First Sergeant. In August 2020, he executed orders to Charlie Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Riverton, Ut and Boise, Id.
September 2023, He was mobilized and deployed to both Okinawa Japan, and the Combined Arms Training Center Fuji, participating in the Unit Deployment Program 24.-1 in support of 4 th Marine Regiment and the 15th MEU.
In July of 2024 First Sergeant Tran participated in the Marine Reserve Exchange Program, traveling to RMR London, working alongside the Royal Marine Commandos.
In January of 2024, First Sergeant Tran was frocked to his current rank. Sergeant Major Tran and received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 23, Combat Logistics Regiment 4, Fort Lewis, Washington where serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Tran has a Associates Degree and a Bachelor's of Science Degree. Sergeant Major Tran’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy the Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 rd award), and Combat Action Ribbon. Sergeant Major Tran is also authorized to wear the Airborne Wings.
