First Sergeant Marisol Horta is a native of San Fernando, California. She enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 2003 and attended recruit training with November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina where she was contractually promoted to the rank of Private First Class. In January 2004 she then reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training. She was then transferred to Personnel Administration School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where she earned the MOS of 0121.
In April 2004 upon completion of school, Private First Class Horta reported for duty to Group Personnel Administration Center, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, California. She was assigned to the service record book section, where she worked as a Basic Allowance for Housing Clerk and Unit Diary Clerk. She was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in June 2004 and assigned as the Unit Diary section Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.
In May 2005 she received orders to the MEU Service Support Group-11, Camp Pendleton, California. In September 2005, she took part in a Support Element in support of Hurricane Katrina, Gulfport Mississippi. She was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal in October 2005. In February 2006, she was then deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Peleliu and returned August 2006.
In October 2007 Corporal Horta received orders to 12th Marine Corps District, San Diego, California, where she was assigned as the Orders Chief. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2007.
In January 2009, she received orders to Inspector-Instructor (I-I) Staff, Company B, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, 4th Marine Division, Londonderry, New Hampshire, where she was assigned as the orders clerk and unit diary clerk. While at Londonderry, New Hampshire she was the assistant funeral coordinator.
In July 2011, she reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor Duty with class 4-11. In November 2011, Sergeant Horta reported to Company O, 4th Recruit Training Battalion. While at Company O, she was promoted to Staff Sergeant on April 2012. She was later transferred to Company N on September 2012 to be a Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor. In November 2013, Staff Sergeant Horta was transferred to Headquarters Company and assigned as the Operations Chief.
In October 2014, she reported to 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade (2d MEB), Camp Lejeune, NC and was assigned as the Staff Secretary Chief. Throughout her assignment with 2d MEB she participated in various exercises to include African Lion and Cold Response. She was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on February 2016. From June 2017 to December 2017, she deployed to Syria and Kuwait and was attached to Special Operations Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve and was the Human Resources Chief for the J-1.
In January 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Horta reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Ca for duty and was assigned as the Admin Chief. In September 2019, she received the 16th National Latina Symposium Distinguished Military Service Award. In November 2019 she was promoted to First Sergeant and received orders to Inspector-Instructor (I-I) Bell, California.
In January 2019 she reported to I-I Staff, 3d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (3D ANGLICO), Bell, California where she currently serves as the I-I First Sergeant.
First Sergeant Horta's personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
