Sergeant Major Justin W. Turner
Command Senior Enlisted Leader
4TH MEDICAL BATTALION

Sergeant Major Turner enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1998 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. After graduating from boot camp, he attended the School of Infantry training at Camp Pendleton, California. He received reserve status and reported to Golf Company, 2d, 23rd Marines, in 1999.  That same year he enrolled at the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, majoring in Industrial Technology.

After the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, and during his junior year at university, Corporal Turner was called to active duty. His battalion was attached to 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, in support of Operation Noble Eagle. His unit spent 2002 as a land based quick reaction force. In early 2003, his unit shipped to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. On invasion day, Corporal Turner and his unit, now attached to Regimental Combat Team 1, breached the border into Iraq and fought north to Baghdad, and on into Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit as part of Task Force Tripoli. Corporal Turner returned home in 2003 and to the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he continued to attend school.

Corporal Turner was promoted to Sergeant and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology in 2005 and was hired by Aerojet Rocketdyne in 2006. During subsequent years, Sergeant Turner was promoted to Staff Sergeant and served his reserve training in Denmark, Japan, Poland and the Ukraine. In 2008, Staff Sergeant Turner was called to duty again in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. Staff Sergeant Turner served as a Platoon Sergeant where his Platoon was manning an outpost with Iraq Military Forces conducting patrols and IED sweeps to keep supply routes safe from Insurgents.

After his tour of duty, he returned to Aerojet Rocketdyne. Staff Sergeant Turner assumed the duty as Company Gunnery Sergeant for Golf Company in 2011 and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in 2012. In February 2014 Gunnery Sergeant Turner transferred over to H&S Company 2d Battalion 23rd Marines to fill the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant. During that time at H&S the Battalion conducted an ITX. Gunnery Sergeant Turner detached from 2/23 and attached to Marine Forces South and deployed in 2015 to Central America for ten month to support Security Cooperation Team 16.1 as a military advisor. During the deployment Gunnery Sergeant Turner was selected to First Sergeant.

Upon returning home in 2016, First Sergeant Turner reported to Weapons Company 2/23. In June of 2018 First Sergeant Turner mobilized with 2d Battalion, 23rd Marines to support Unit Deployment program 19.1 in Okinawa, Japan. First Sergeant Turner demobilized in May of 2019. First Sergeant Turner received orders in August of 2019 to report to Head Quarters & Service Company 2d Battalion 23rd Marines where he served until 2021. In 2021 First Sergeant Turner was selected and frocked to Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Turner received order to report to 4th Medical Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group where he currently serves.

Personal Awards: 2 Navy Commendation Medal, 2 Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Selected Marine Reserve Medal 7th award and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
