First Sergeant Daniel C. Wald is a native of San Francisco, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps’ delayed entry program in July 2003, and attended Recruit Training in November 2003 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego. Upon graduation, he attended School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California. He then went to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he attended the Motor Transport Operators course and earned the MOS of 3531/3533.
Lance Corporal Wald was assigned to Combat Service Support Group 3, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base, Hawaii from July 2004 to December 2007 and deployed in support of Operation Iraq Freedom in 2005 and 2006 as a motor vehicle operator and was promoted to Sergeant during this time.
Sergeant Wald received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 373, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Miramar. During this assignment, Sgt Wald served as semi-refueler operator and deployed in support of Operation Iraq Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan as a semi-refueler operator. Sgt Wald continued to serve with MWSS 373 until October 2011.
Sergeant Wald received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego in October 2011. Sergeant Wald served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Marine Corps Instructor Trainer of Water Survival. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in November 2014.
Staff Sergeant Wald reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 172, Marine Wing Support Group 39, and Marine Corps Base Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan in December 2012. While with MWSS 172, he served as a Truck Master and Company Gunnery Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Wald was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on 1 September 2018 and remained at MWSS 172 until December 2018.
Gunnery Sergeant Wald received orders to 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group and was selected to serve as the Motor Transport Chief and the Company First Sergeant and was promoted to First Sergeant in February 2022.
His personal decorations include, Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Joint Service Achievement Medal Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Combat Action Ribbon, as well as numerous unit and service awards.
