First Sergeant Kaleb G. Hurd

First Sergeant Hurd is a native of Eugene, Oregon. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 7 September 2008. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego California where he graduated as a Private First Class (meritoriously). After graduating recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion of MCT he attended the Field Radio Operators School in Twenty-nine Palms, California. After completion of the Field Radio Operators School, he received his military occupational specialty (MOS) of Field Radio Operator (0621). In March of 2009 PFC Hurd received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twenty-nine Palms California, where he served as a Field Radio Operator.

PFC Hurd was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in November 2009. In February 2011 Lance Corporal Hurd was sent on his first deployment with Combat Logistics Battalion 7 to Camp Dweyer, Afghanistan. While deployed Lance Corporal Hurd served as a Radio Operator for the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) as well as the Battalions Electronic Key Management System (EKMS) Local Element Custodian. Lance Corporal Hurd was promoted to the rank of Corporal in March 2011. Corporal Hurd was promoted again in March 2012. Sergeant Hurd attended Sergeants Course in Twenty-nine Palms, California. Upon his return to CLB 7 Sergeant Hurd was assigned as the sections Platoon Sergeant for the remainder of his time.

Sergeant Hurd received orders to 7th Engineer Support Battalion (ESB) in Camp Pendleton, California in December 2013. Sergeant Hurd Served as the Platoon Sergeant and the Assistant Radio Chief for the Communications Platoon. In April 2015 Sergeant Hurd was selected to join the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) as the Communications Officer in Da Nang, Vietnam. In August 2016 Sergeant Hurd was again selected to serve as the Communications Officer for the DPAA, this time being assigned in Papua New Guinea. Sergeant Hurd was the recipient of the Communicator Of the Year award for I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) in February 2017. Sergeant Hurd was assigned to the billet of Radio Chief for the remainder of his time at 7th ESB. Sergeant Hurd was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in October 2017 and obtained his new MOS of (0629) Transmissions Chief.

In October of 2017 Staff Sergeant Hurd reported for duty at Drill Instructor School class 1-18, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego California. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School Staff Sergeant Hurd was assigned to 3rd Battalion Company L where he served as a Drill Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Senior Drill Instructor. In August of 2019 Staff Sergeant Hurd was transferred to Company M where he would serve as a Chief Drill Instructor. Staff Sergeant Hurd was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (meritoriously) in June 2020. Gunnery Sergeant Hurd would be selected to serve as the Drill Master for Drill Instructors School and serve at the school house to help teach coach and mentor the future Drill Instructors of MCRD San Diego.

On May 7th 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Hurd checked into 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and assumed the role of Transmissions Chief. Throughout his time in 3d LAR he filled in the billets of Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant on 2 separate occasions as well as the Battalion Communications Chief. He supported multiple MEF and Division level field exercises such as Operation Freedom Banner and Marine Air Ground Task Force Warfighting Exercise and gained valuable ground side experience as a senior leader. Gunnery Sergeant Hurd was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant on April 2nd 2024.

First Sergeant Hurd checked into 2nd Battalion 23rd Marines, Weapons Company in Seal Beach California in order to fulfill the role of I-I First Sergeant on May 1st 2024. He currently serves in this billet and is executing 36 month orders.

First Sergeant Sergeant Hurd's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of 2nd award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
