Biography

 

First Sergeant John Ross
UNIT SENIOR ENLISTED LEADER
COMPANY C, 4TH LIGHT ARMORED RECONNAISSANCE BATTALION

Gunnery Sergeant John Ross is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia.

He enlisted on 12 November 1997 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island.

In March 1998, Private Ross reported to Camp Johnson, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training and graduated in April 1998.

Private First Class Ross attended the Microcomputer Repair Course at 29 Palms, California and graduated in August of 1998.

After completion of the Microcomputer Repair Course, Private First Class Ross reported to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Lejeune in September of 1998.

In October 1998, Private First Class Ross was assigned as the Microcomputer Repair Specialist for 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

While assigned as the Microcomputer Repair Chief, Private First Class Ross was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in January 1999.

In October 2000, Lance Corporal Ross reported to Electronic Maintenance Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, in Okinawa, Japan.

While serving as the Microcomputer Repair Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Lance Corporal Ross was promoted to Corporal in July 2001.

Corporal Ross transferred to the Inactive Ready Reserve in August 2001.

In August 2008, Corporal Ross reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 24 as a drilling reservist. Corporal Ross served as the Data Chief until September of 2013.

While serving as the Data Chief, Corporal Ross was promoted to Sergeant in August of 2009.

Sergeant Ross transferred to the Individual Mobilization Augmentee program in September 2013 and joined the G-6 at III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan as the Communications Staff Noncommissioned Officer.

In August of 2014, Sergeant Ross was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In March of 2017, Staff Sergeant Ross transferred to II Marine Expeditionary Force G-6. While assigned to the G-6, Staff Sergeant Ross served as the Helpdesk Operations Staff Noncommissioned Officer.

In February 2019, Staff Sergeant Ross accepted mobilization orders to Deployment Processing Command/Reserve Support Unit-West as the Communications Chief.

While serving as the Communications Chief, Staff Sergeant Ross was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October of 2020.

First Sergeant Ross's personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal and various other service and campaign medals.
