First Sergeant Joseph C. Redman

First Sergeant Joseph C. Redman is a native of Livingston New Jersey. He Graduated from Wellington High School in West Palm Beach Florida in May 2003 and attended College for 2 years before leaving for recruit training. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in January 2006 and underwent recruit training at 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Lima Company, Marine Corps Recruit Depot MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina and was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class. In August 2006 he graduated the Basic Combat Engineer Course at Courthouse Bay, North Carolina. He was then ordered to Bravo Company, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (1st CEB), 1st Marine Division (1st MARDIV) Camp Pendleton, California.

During this tour he served as an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon Gunner. In March 2007 he deployed to Iraq with Company B, 1st CEB in support of 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment. He was Combat Meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal in August 2007. In February 2008 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant and held the billet of squad leader. He deployed on the 15th MEU from March 2008 to October 2008 with Company A, 1st CEB, in Support of Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion 5th Marine Regiment. Upon his return from the 15th MEU, he held the billet of Company A, Company Gunnery Sergeant. He was also the Battalion Color Sergeant from February 2009 to his departure from 1st CEB in December 2009.

In February 2010 Sergeant Redman reported to 9th Engineer Support Battalion (9th ESB). From March 2010 to April 2011 he led Marines in the Remain Behind Element, attaching to Utilities Platoon, Engineer Support Company where he held the billet of Platoon Sergeant.  He then transferred to the Construction Shop, Engineer Sustainment Company, 9th ESB and held the billet of Platoon Guide. In February 2011 Sergeant Redman Deployed to Mainland Japan in support of Operation Forrest Light where he trained the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force in Engineer Techniques, Tactics, and Procedures. In May 2011 Sergeant Redman's platoon transferred to Engineer Company A where he held the billets of Squad Leader, Platoon Guide, and Bridge Commander. He deployed to Afghanistan with Company A, Bridge platoon, 9th ESB from November 2011 to May 2012.

In October 2012, Sergeant Redman attended the Marine Corps Combat Instructor School at the School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California. Upon Completion of the school, he received the secondary MOS of 0913 Combat Instructor.  In February 2013 he checked in to Fox Company, MCT Bn, SOI West, Camp Pendleton, California and assumed his duties as a Combat Instructor.  Sergeant Redman was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in December 2013.  In May 2014 he executed orders to H&I Company and was assigned as the Tactics Section Leader in the Instructor Group. 

In February 2016 Staff Sergeant Redman executed orders to 1st CEB where he held the billet of Platoon Sergeant, 3rd Platoon, Company C. From October 2016 to May 2017, Staff Sergeant Redman deployed with his platoon to Iraq in support of 3rd battalion 7th Marines SPMAGTF 17.1. In November 2017 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and assumed the billet of Platoon Sergeant, 2nd Platoon, Company A. In May, 2018 Gunnery Sergeant Redman executed orders to the Marine Corps Engineer School where he worked as a Military Demolitions Instructor, Demolitions Section leader, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Company First Sergeant. 

In June 2022, First Sergeant Redman was promoted to his current rank and received orders to Inspector-Instructor duty, Detachment Communications Company, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Indianapolis, Indiana where he is currently serving as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant. 

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal,  Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of three gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon, and various other service and campaign medals.
