First Sergeant Cody M. Ferrell is a native of Martinsburg, WV. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in April 2008, were he left for recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation in July 2008, he received orders to Camp Geiger, NC for Marine Combat Training (MCT). After successfully completing MCT in he received orders to Fort Lee Quarter Master school for bulk fuel specialist school. Upon completion of the 1391 bulk fuel course, he received orders to MWSS-274, Marine Air Wing 24 (MAW 24), Second Marine Air Wing (2nd MAW), Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point (MCAS).
At the end of his Bulk Fuel specialist school First Sergeant Ferrell was assigned as a line runner in 2008, a fuel test NCO in 2009 and assigned to forward operation base (FOB) platoon in 2010, Fuel team leader in 2011, and Manifest NCO in 2012. During his time with MWSS-274 he deployed to Helmand Afghanistan and assigned to the 22nd MEU in support of VMM-263. Upon the conclusion of the 22nd MEU First Sergeant Ferrell lateral moved to become a tank crewman.
Following his completion of training at Fort Benning GA he was assigned to 2nd Tank Bn Delta Co in 2012. During his time in Delt Co 3rd Plt he was designated as the Plt Sgt Gunner. In which they quickly stared working up for his third deployment back to Helmand, Afghanistan. During his tenure at 2nd Tanks, he held billets such as crypto NCO, Tank Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Platoon commander, S-3 training chief, and Battalion Commanders Tank Section Chief. He also received orders to Ground Combat integrated Task Force (GCEITF) as a supervising tank commander in 2015. Upon his promotion to Staff Sergeant, First Sergeant Ferrell was assigned to Combat Assault Battalion (CAB) in 2017.
During his service at CAB First Sergeant Ferrell was assigned as the Assistant Operations Chief and 3rd Marine Division Armor liaison subject matter expert. Other concurrent billets First Sergeant Ferrell held where Anti-Terrorism Officer, DERRS clerk, and Training Chief. Upon the deactivation of CAB in 2019 First sergeant Ferrell was assigned to 1st Tank Bn Alpha Co. He also attended Career course, BFT operator, C2PC operator, TCCC, Watch Officer/Chiefs course.
His tenure at 1st tanks had Frist Sergeant Ferrell assigned to Alpha Company 2nd Platoon and Bravo Company 2nd Platoon. Both assignments had him as the Platoon Sergeant. He would go forward and complete multiple training exercise from ITX's to company level gunneries. At the same time First Sergeant Ferrell would be promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and attended Maneuver Senior Leaders course in Ft Benning. Shortly after he except orders to Head Quarters Marine Corps Casualty branch upon the divestment of the tank program in 2020.
First Sergeant Ferrell fulfilled his role as a case manager, CGRI inspector and training subject matter expert teaching marines throughout the corps. He would also attend Advanced school as well. In early 2023 First Sergeant Ferrell received orders to weapons Training Battalion to assume the Company First Sergeant role in Marksmanship Training Company. Here he would be selected for promotion to First sergeant and in May of 2024 First Sergeant Ferrell would assume his current post as the
Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment in Brunswick, ME.
