Major Abelardo B. Llamas
Inspector-Instructor, Company C, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines

Major Abelardo B. Llamas is a native of Tucson, AZ. After graduating from Rincon High School in 2005, he attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN. While in college, he participated in the Platoon Leaders Course (PLC) in May 2007. He graduated college in May 2009, and completed the PLC in August 2009 and accepted his commission as a Second Lieutenant.

After accepting his commission he served as an Officer Selection Officer Aid for five months while he awaited orders to report to The Basic School. He started TBS October 2010 and continued his initial training at the Infantry Officer Course (IOC) where he was also promoted to First Lieutenant in September 2011. Upon graduation from IOC, he received orders to 2d Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion (2d LAR Bn).

Once he arrived at 2d LAR Bn, he was then sent to the Light Armor Reconnaissance Leaders Course (LARLC) and graduated in February 2012. Upon returning from LARLC he was assigned as a LAR Platoon Commander for 3d Platoon, Company C. In March of 2013 he was assigned as Executive Officer for Headquarters & Service Company, and in November 2013 he was promoted to Captain. In February of 2014 he deployed as an Individual Augment to CENTCOM FWD- Jordan where he served as the J35 Ground Future Operations Planner until August 2014.

Upon return from the deployment, Capt Llamas received orders to the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) where he was assigned as the Operations Officer (OPS-O) for the Afghanistan-Pakistan Task Force (AF-PAK TF) in the J2/Mission Integration Division. In July of 2015 he deployed in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve as the Counter-IED Deputy/OPS-O until January 2016. Upon return from the deployment, Capt Llamas resumed his duties as the AF-PAK TF OPS-O. From January to June 2017 Capt Llamas attended the Expeditionary Warfare School-Blended Seminar Program (EWS-BSP) in Camp Lejeune, NC where he was a Distinguished Graduate.

Shortly after graduating from the EWS-BSP, Capt Llamas executed orders to 2d Battalion, 3rd Marines where he was assigned command of Company G. He served as Company Commander from July 2017 to January 2018. During this time he led the company through exercises Bougainville I, II, and III, and Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 2-18. He also deployed the company forward to Okinawa, Japan where the company served as a force in readiness, and supported exercise Blue Chromite 18 and Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT)- Brunei. After completing company command, he was selected for promotion to Major in December of 2018, and was then assigned as the Assistant Operations Officer.

Capt Llamas received and executed orders during the summer of 2019 to serve as the Inspector-Instructor for Company C, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines in Lansing, MI where he currently serves. He was promoted to the rank of Major in October 2019.

He has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and various other Service and Campaign awards.
