First Sergeant Griffin J. York

First Sergeant Griffin J. York is a native of Anderson, IN. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 2007 and graduated recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in July 2007.


In July 2007 he reported to Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, CA.

In September 2007 he attended Aviation Machinist Mates School at Marine Aviation Training Support Group 23 Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, FL.

In November 2007 he attended AV-8B Aircraft Mechanic School at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, NC. Upon completion Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) School he received the MOS 6222 Intermediate Level Fixed Wing Power Plant Mechanic.

In March 2008, he reported to his first duty station with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 13 at MCAS, Yuma, AZ where he served as an Intermediate Level F402-RR-408 Power Plant Mechanic. During his time at MALS-13, he deployed with VMA-311 on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from December 2012 to June 2013.

In November 2013, he reported to Recruiting Station Albany, NY, Recruiting Sub-station Northern Vermont, Permanent Contact Station Saint Johnsbury, VT to serve as a canvassing recruiter. 

In November 2016, he reported to MALS-14, MCAS Cherry Point, NC to serve as the Production Control Chief of the AV-8B Power Plants Division.

In August 2017, he reported to Fleet Readiness Center East, MCAS Cherry Point to serve as the Engines Branch Assistant Deputy.

In January 2021, he reported to MALS-14 to serve as the AV-8B Power Plants Division Chief and until being selected to be the Assistant Maintenance Chief of the MALS-14 Maintenance Department and eventually the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant.

In June 2024, he reported to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines to be the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant.

First Sergeant York's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (One Gold star in lieu of second award) and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

First Sergeant York earned his Associates Degree in Aeronautics in 2022 and his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautics in 2023.
