Master Sergeant Jason E. Smith
Senior Enlisted Advisor
MARINE FIGHTER TRAINING SQUADRON 401

A native of Fort Worth, TX.  He enlisted in the Delayed Entry Program in September 1998 and attended recruit training aboard Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot, San Diego in July 1999. Upon completion, Private Smith attended Marine Combat Training aboard Camp Pendleton, California.  Upon completion, he proceeded to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida to attend “A” School for his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training as an Aviation Mechanic.  Upon graduating “A” School, Private Smith was promoted to Private First Class and received orders to Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he completed MOS Specific training and earned the MOS of KC-130 Safety and Survival Technician.   

After completing MOS training in April 2000, PFC Smith reported to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 234, Marine Air Group 41 in Fort Worth, Texas where he was to the Safety and Survival work center, released from active duty, and joined to the SMCR.  

In January 2002, Cpl Smith was activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  From July 2002 until his deactivation in January 2005, Cpl Smith deployed multiple times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  In August 2005, Cpl Smith once again joined the active ranks to support humanitarian efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.   

In April 2010, Sgt Smith transitioned to the Active Reserve as a KC-130 Airframes Mechanic with VMGR-234 where he held multiple positions including SNCOIC for the Airframes work center and Quality Assurance Representative.   

In July 2014 SSgt Smith reported to Marine Medium Tilt-Rotor Squadron 764, Marine Air Group 41 aboard MCAS Miramar, CA.  During this tour SSgt Smith served as a Maintenance Controller and Technical Directives Program Manager.  Additionally, SSgt Smith deployed with the unit serving as the Maintenance Control SNCOIC and Maintenance Control Chief during the unit’s 7-month deployment in support of SPMAGTF-CR-AF 17.2 in Moron, Spain. 

In September 2017, SSgt Smith reported to VMGR-234 and served in various roles including the Corrosion Control work center supervisor, Corrosion Control & Prevention Program Manager, Hazardous Materials Control & Management Program Manager, KC-130J Safe for Flight, Corrosion Control and Airframes Quality Assurance Representative, and Maintenance Training Program Manager.   

In September 2021, GySgt Smith reported to VMGR-452 where he served as the Airframes Division Chief.  During this tour he oversaw the decommissioning of the “Yankees” and managed the transition of the unit’s SMCR and AR population.  July 2023 GySgt Smith was once again reassigned to VMGR-234 where he held served as the Aviation Life Support Systems Division Chief and Maintenance Chief upon promotion to Master Sergeant in December 2024. 

In July 2025 Master Sergeant Jason E. Smith reported to Marine Fighter Training Squadron (VMFT) 401where he is currently serving as the Senior Enlisted Advisor.
