Gunnery Sergeant Menchaca is a native of Fresno, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2003 and attended recruit training in Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California where he was Meritoriously Promoted to Private First Class. In February 2004, he then reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, California for Marine Combat Training. In March 2004, he was transferred to Ground Ordnance School, Marine Corps Detachment Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland where he earned the MOS of 2111.
In May 2004, upon completion of school, Private First Class Menchaca reported for duty to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. He was assigned to the Marine Aircraft Group 11. In September 2004, he was promoted to Lance Corporal. In March 2005 he was assigned as the small arms repair technician and deployed with VMFA(AW)-121 to Iwakuni, Japan under the Unit Deployment Program and participated in Operations Full Eagle, Cobra Gold, and Commando Sling. In September 2005, he was assigned back to Marine Aircraft Group 11. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal January 2006 and appointed as the Armory NCOIC.
In August 2006, Corporal Menchaca was transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan to serve as a Small Arms Repair Technician. In July 2007, Corporal Menchaca was assigned to 3D Marine Expeditionary Brigade (FWD) where he Served as the Ordnance Chief and participated in Talisman Saber. August 2007 he was assigned back to Combat Logistics Regiment 37.
In December 2007 Corporal Menchaca was transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment 1 Camp Pendleton, California. He was appointed as the Armory Chief. March 2008 he was promoted to Sergeant. In August 2008, he was attached to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 Detachment as the Armory Chief. In February 2009 Sergeant Menchaca deployed to Al Asad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 9-2 with Combat Logistics Battalion 7 assigned as the Armory Chief. In September 2009, he returned to Combat Logistics Regiment 1, and served as the Regiment Armory Chief and H&S Company Training NCO.
In July 2011 Sergeant Menchaca attended Recruiters School. In September 2011 Sergeant Menchaca was transferred to Recruiting Station Orange, Recruiting Sub Station La Puente, Permanent Contact Station Azusa, California. He was assigned as a canvassing recruiter. In January 2014 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and assigned as a canvassing recruiter and Assistant SNCOIC.
In September 2014, Staff Sergeant Menchaca was transferred to I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group and assigned as the Ordnance Chief, Commanding General Inspector for Ground Ordnance, and Small arms Advisor to the I MEF Ground Ordnance Chief.
In April 2016, Staff Sergeant Menchaca was transferred to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, to serve as the Ordnance Chief. In November 2016 Staff Sergeant Menchaca deployed with the Battalion Landing Team 2/5 and attached to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Camp Hansen Okinawa, Japan. June 2017 the Battalion returned to Camp Pendleton, California.
In October 2017 Staff Sergeant Menchaca was transferred to 3d Battalion, 25th Marines in Brook Park, Ohio where he served as the Battalion Ground Ordnance Officer Inspector-Instructor, Suicide Prevention Program Officer, and Uniformed Victim Advocate.
In July 2021 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, and reported to 3d Battalion, 14th Marines in Bristol, Pennsylvania. He is currently serving as the Battalion Ground Ordnance Officer Inspector-Instructor, Headquarters Battery Unit Senior Enlisted Leader, Suicide Prevention Program Officer, Toys for Tots Assistant Coordinator, and Unit Transition Readiness Coordinator.
Gunnery Sergeant Menchaca's personal awards include the, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star.
