Gunnery Sergeant DiMatteo is a native of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Ridley High School in June and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, in August 2012. Upon completion of recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina.
GySgt DiMatteo subsequently attended and graduated from the Marine Artillery Scout Observer Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before completing the Fire Support Man Course in Coronado, California, certifying him as an 0861 Fire Support Marine.
He reported to 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, in May 2013, serving as a Fire Support Marine assigned to the V13 Battalion Fire Support Team (BFST). After completing workups and becoming a certified Joint Fires Observer, GySgt DiMatteo deployed twice in support of Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 14.2 in June 2014 and 16.1 in December 2015.
In September 2016, GySgt DiMatteo reported to 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, California. He then attended the Tactical Air Control Party Course at EWTGPAC, Coronado, California, graduating as a certified Joint Terminal Attack Controller. GySgt DiMatteo subsequently deployed as a company JTAC with V35 in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in June 2017, V25 for the 31st MEU in June 2018, and V35 again in support of the 11th MEU in June 2019.
In September 2020, GySgt DiMatteo returned to 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, MCB Hawaii, assigned to the V23 BFST where he deployed as a company JTAC in support of UDP 21.2 in June 2021 and V33 BFST in support of UDP 22.2.
GySgt DiMatteo reported to Fire Support Battery, 10th Marine Regiment in October 2023, serving as the Battalion Fires Chief for V28 while deployed for UDP 24.2 and during Joint Viking, dual-hatting as the Assistant Fire Support Coordinator.
In July 2025, he reported to 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment where he currently serves as the Regimental Fires Chief, HQ I&I 1stSgt, anti-terrorism officer, and equal opportunity coordinator.
GySgt DiMatteo is the recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal and three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
