First Sergeant Obryant enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 28, 2007 and completed Recruit Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California. Upon graduation from Marine Combat Training in Camp Pendleton, California, Private First Class Obryant reported to Field Radio Operators Course, Twentynine Palms, California, and earned the Primary MOS 0621 (Field Radio Operator).
In September 2008, Lance Corporal Obryant received orders to his first duty station, Combat Logistics Regiment (CLR) 17, Camp Pendleton, California, assigned as a Transmissions System Operator. He was later assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 13. In May 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. While with CLB 13, Corporal Obryant was attached to Headquarters and Service Company, Communications Platoon. He was assigned as the Controlled Cryptographic Item Chief. He deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in 2009 in support of Western Pacific Deployment (WESTPAC) 9-1, then in 2011 in support of WESTPAC 11-1. Both deployments were in support of the MAGTF providing a crisis response and limited contingency operations capability. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in February 2011. He then served as the Transmissions Systems Chief.
In April 2012, Sergeant Obryant reported to Recruiters School, MCRD, San Diego, California. Upon completion, he received orders to Recruiting Substation (RSS) Dubuque, Recruiting Station Des Moines, Iowa. He served as a Canvasing Recruiter from July 2012 to February 2014 and as Station Commander of RSS Dubuque from March 2014 to August 2015. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in July 2015.
In September 2015, Staff Sergeant Obryant reported to Marine Air Control Group (MACG) 28, Cherry Point, North Carolina. He was assigned as the Communications Chief for the MACG Detachment. He deployed with the 22nd MEU in support of Operation Odyssey Lighting as the Communications Chief.
In March 2017, Staff Sergeant Obryant reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. He assumed responsibilities as the Transmissions Systems Chief, Operations Chief, and later as the Communications Chief. He attended multiple training operations including Trident Juncture 18, Integrated Training Exercise (ITX), and Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course.
In October 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and reported to 4th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, West Palm Beach, Florida in November. He was assigned as the Communications Chief for the Inspector-Instructor Staff.
In March 2023, Gunnery Sergeant Obryant reported to CLR 37, Okinawa, Japan to serve as Communications Company, 4th Platoon, Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC). He attended the training operation Korean Marine Exchange Program (KMEP), in Pohang, South Korea.
Gunnery Sergeant Obryant was then selected to the rank of First Sergeant, frocked on February 19, 2024 and reported to 9th Engineer Support Battalion to serve as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Alpha Company. He attended the training operation Balikatan, in Manila, Philippines.
In March 2025 First Sergeant Obryant Reported to 1st Battalion, 23d Marines, 4th Marine Division, where he serves as the Headquarters and Service Company Inspector-Instructor Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.
Decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
