First Sergeant Cochran joined the Marine Corps under the Aviation Electronics option in December 1997. He attended boot camp at MCRD Parris Island, SC with 3rd Recruit Training battalion where he graduated in February 1998 as a Private.
In May 1998 PFC Cochran reported to Aviation Electricians Mate A-school where he was appointed as class leader and graduated top of class academically. From there, LCpl Cochran attended VMAT-203 FREST (Fleet Replacement Enlisted Skills Training)AV-8B Organizational Maintenance Training, again graduating top of class. Upon graduating he received orders to VMAT-203 as permanent personnel in the Avionics Division as an Aviation Electrician at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC, where he worked for the next year and a half.
In spring of 2000, LCpl Cochran was selected for a 4 year NROTC scholarship at the University of Michigan. In August 2000, he received his DD-214, honorable discharge and reported to NROTC as a midshipman. In his 2nd year with NROTC, LCpl Cochran was appointed Platoon Sergeant for "B" Company, 2nd Platoon. After 2 years in NROTC, LCpl Cochran lost his scholarship due to medical reasons, and was released to the IRR.
In November 2005, LCpl Cochran reenlisted in the Selected Marine Corps Reserves with the new MOS of Combat Engineer (1371). LCpl Cochran received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 Detachment "B" Engineer Section in Selfridge, MI for on the job training (OJT). LCpl Cochran arrived to MWSS-471 Det B in the fall of 2005 and started his OJT.
In March 2008 Sergeant Cochran reenlisted into active duty and was ordered to report back to VMAT-203 as an aviation electrician. Sergeant Cochran served as a Desk Sergeant and Crew Leader in the Avionics Division for 1 year before being moved to Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Tool Program for VMAT-203.
In August 2010, Sergeant Cochran completed a Lateral Move to a new MOS, Engineer Equipment Electrical Systems Technician. He was then assigned to Maintenance Platoon, Headquarters Company, 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp LeJeune, NC. During his time with 2D LAR, Sergeant Cochran deployed to South Helmand Province, Afghanistan as Sergeant of the Guard from April 2011 through November 2011, earning a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Shortly after deployment, in March 2012 Sergeant Cochran received his DD-214 and left military service.
In March 2104 Sergeant Cochran reenlisted in the Selected Marine Corps Reserves. He was assigned to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron-48 Motor Transport and Utilities Platoon, where he was appointed Platoon Sergeant. After serving as the Platoon Sergeant for 2 years, Staff Sergeant Cochran was appointed as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the MTUT platoon. After serving 2 years as the SNCOIC of MTUT, Staff Sergeant Cochran was assigned to Headquarters as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant for MTACS-48, where he would oversee the welfare and training of over 90 SMCR Marines.
In December of 2021, Gunnery Sergeant reported to Engineer School in Courthouse Bay, Camp LeJeune, NC for Utilities Chief Course, earning the 1169 MOS as a UT Chief. Upon return to MTACS-48 Gunnery sergeant Cochran assumed duties as the SNCOIC of the MTUT section, where he could best serve with his new MOS. Shortly after assuming this role, Gunnery Sergeant Cochran was reassigned as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant for MTACS - 48, returning to his previous role.
On October 26, 2024 Gunnery Sergeant Cochran was frocked to First Sergeant and ordered to report to 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, Headquarters and Service Company as the Company First Sergeant.
First Sergeant Cochran has earned (1) Navy Commendation Medal, (1) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and (1) Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. First Sergeant Cochran has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and as a civilian is an instructor at a police academy.
