First Sergeant David J. Fetherolf is a native of Reading Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and reported MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina in June 2004, where was assigned to 1st Training Battalion and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class. Upon earning the title Marine, Private First Class Fetherolf reported to Marine Combat Training in Camp Geiger North Carolina. After completing combat training, he attended Motor Transport Operator School in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, graduating in November 2004.
Private First Class Fetherolf reported to 3D Transportation Support Battalion, Motor Transport Company in Okinawa Japan in December 2004. In March 2005, he deployed to provide support for the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. Shortly after returning, he was promoted to Lance Corporal and deployed to Thailand for Operation Cobra Gold where he assisted in training Thai Army soldiers. In December 2005, he achieved the rank of Corporal. In February 2006, Corporal Fetherolf deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, augmented to Combat Logistics Battalion 7. While deployed, Corporal Fetherolf performed duties as the Assistant Security Team Commander. Corporal Fetherolf returned from deployment in October 2006, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December 2006.
In December 2006, Sergeant Fetherolf reported to 9th Communication Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as Platoon Sergeant for the Motor Transport Operator and Maintenance Platoon until being honorably discharged from active duty in June 2008.
In March 2010, Sergeant Fetherolf began serving in the Marine Corps Reserves with the Mobilization Command Peacetime Wartime Support Team in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2012, the unit was reconstructed to become the MCIRSA Reserve Support Program. Sergeant Fetherolf served as the Supply Chief, where he was responsible for managing the Baltimore-area Individual Ready Reserve population. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in March 2012. Staff Sergeant Fetherolf held billets as the site Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, and as Officer in Charge. During this time, Staff Sergeant Fetherolf earned his Associate's degree in Aviation Management in order to pursue his current civilian career as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October 2016.
In November 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Fetherolf transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron 471, Detachment A, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was tasked with the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant, and then in 2018 assumed the role of Senior Enlisted Advisor for the company. Gunnery Sergeant Fetherolf was promoted to his current rank of First Sergeant in June 2020.
First Sergeant Fetherolf was assigned to Headquarters Battery, 3D Battalion, 14th Marines in Bristol, Pennsylvania in July 2020 where he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Advisor for three years.
In July 2023, First Sergeant Fetherolf was directed to his current billet assignment where he serves as the Unit Senior Enlisted Advisor of Alpha Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion located in Little Creek, Virginia.
First Sergeant Fetherolf's personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
