First Sergeant Joshua A. Espedal
UNIT SENIOR ENLISTED LEADER
H&S CO., 4TH ASSAULT AMPHIBIAN BATTALION

First Sergeant Espedal is a native of Grand Prairie, TX.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 2004 and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA. Upon graduation from boot camp, he was sent to the Ground Communication Organizational Repair Course in 29 Palms, CA.

Upon completion of MOS school, Lance Corporal Espedal was transferred to the reserves and assigned to H&S Co, 4th Tank Bn as a Radio Repairer.

In April 2007, Lance Corporal Espedal was assigned to Delta Co, 4th Tank Bn.  While assigned to Delta Co. he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Communications Technician and M1A1 Combat Vehicle Crewman. He was Combat Meritoriously promoted to Corporal in January 2008. He returned in May of 2008 and was assigned to H&S Co. 4th Tank Bn as a Communications Technician.

Between late 2009 and early 2010, Sergeant Espedal attended multiple schools, including the Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival course (EWTGPAC), Machin Gun Trainer course (SOI-WEST AIT Bn), and Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor Course (MCRD-SD).

In April 2011, Sergeant Espedal was activated and deployed to Eastern Europe with SPMAGTF-BSRF as the Electronics System Maintenance Chief. He returned from SPMAGTF-BSRF in October 2011 and was transferred back to H&S Co. 4th Tank Bn. To serve as the Communication Platoon Sergeant.

In February 2013, Sergeant Espedal received PCS orders to MCCES for Advanced Electronics Course and Electronics Maintenance Technician Course. In April, He was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. In October 2013, Staff Sergeant Espedal completed training and was transferred back to H&S Co. 4th Tank Bn.

In February 2014, Staff Sergeant Espedal executed PCS orders to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth to serve with Wounded Warrior Battalion East. He served as a section leader until June 2014 when He was assigned as the detachment 1stSgt. In January 2016, Staff Sergeant Espedal completed his tour with WWBn-East and transferred back to the SMCR

In January 2016, Staff Sergeant Espedal joined Det 3 Maint Co CLB-451, Indianapolis, IN. and was assigned as the Operations Chief.

In January 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Espedal was assigned to SPMAGTF-SC as the Electronics Systems Maintenance Chief, KMI custodian, and Water Survival Program subject matter expert. In December 2017 Gunnery Sergeant Espedal was transferred back to Det 3 Maint Co CLB-451.

In April 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Espedal was assigned to MWSS-473 to deploy with SPMAGTF-CR-CC as the ACE Electronics Maintenance Chief. He oversaw the maintenance of shops in Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. In December 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Espedal was transferred back to Det 3 Maint Co CLB-451.

In January 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Espedal was assigned to SPMAGTF-SC20 and served as the Command Element First Sergeant and Electronics Maintenance Chief.

In June 2021 Gunnery Sergeant Espedal was Frocked to First Sergeant and transferred to Bravo Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion.

In December 2022, First Sergeant Espedal was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, as the Unit's Senior Enlisted Leader.
