First Sergeant Jared Filosa

First Sergeant Filosa is a native of Long Island, New York.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 6 June 2001 and attended Recruit Training MCRD Parris Island on 26 June 2001, Upon graduation, Private Filosa reported to Marine Combat Training School at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in October and was promoted to Private First Class in December 2001. After training at Basic Electronics Course, Entry Level Small Computer Systems Specialist Course, and Telephone System/Personal Computer Intermediate Repair Course at Marine Corps Base 29 Palms, California, he was assigned to 6th Communications Battalion, in Brooklyn, NY in July 2002.  He was assigned to the Communication Electronics Maintenance Platoon (CEM) and promoted to Lance Corporal in August 2002.  In January 2003, Lance Corporal Filosa was activated and mobilized with 6th Communication Battalion and deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  After returning in July 2003, Lance Corporal Filosa was assigned as a Team leader in CEM Platoon.  In June 2004, Lance Corporal Filosa activated and mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Communications Platoon, Combat Service Support Battalion-1.  He was promoted to Corporal in Fallujah, Iraq in October 2004.  Upon his return, he completed Corporals Leadership Course and was assigned as a section head with CEM.  
 
In October of 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  From October 2009 to September 2010, he was assigned as the Platoon Sergeant for CEM Platoon.  In August 2010, he completed the Motor Vehicle Operator Course.  Sergeant Filosa was assigned as the Training NCO for CEM Platoon. In January 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.  In March 2011, he was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Service Company, 6th Communication Battalion.  From November 2011 to November 2012, Staff Sergeant Filosa was activated and mobilized with 1st Maintenance Battalion, General Support Motor Transport Company in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Helmland Province, Afghanistan.  During this mobilization, he held multiple billets to include Headquarters Platoon Sergeant, Company Training Chief, Local Electronic Key Management System custodian, & Communications and Maintenance Chief for the Company. 
 
In July 2013 he attended the Reserve Career Course at Quantico, Virginia.  In November 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and over the next year held the billet of Shop Chief.  From November 2016 until August 2017, GySgt Filosa was activated and mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to the Kingdom of Bahrain.  He was assigned as the Maintenance Chief for Marine Central Commands Deployable Joint Command and Control system, working under the c5 directorate with Combined Task Force 51 / 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade.  This included a 43 day deployment to Jordan for the conduct of the combined Joint Exercise Eager Lion.  Upon his return in the Fall of 2017 through February 2021, Gunnery Sergeant Filosa help multiple billets within the Service Company and CEM Platoon to include Company Gunnery Sergeant and Shop Chief with Ground Electronics Maintenance Platoon with 6th Communication Battalion.  From February 2021 to May 2022, Gunnery Sergeant Filosa was assigned the billet of Platoon Commander for MEU1 platoon,  Headquarters Company, 6th Communication Battalion.  In May 2022, Gunnery Sergeant Filosa was promoted to his current rank of First Sergeant.  In June 2022, First Sergeant Filosa was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters & Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division Garden City, NY.  After his initial tour as a Company First Sergeant he was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Food Services Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 45, 4th Marine Logistics Group, in Smyrna, Georgia.
 
First Sergeant Filosa's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.  First Sergeant Filosa holds an Associates of Science degree in Business Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Technology from Farmingdale State University.  He is a Certified Associate in Project Management.  First Sergeant Filosa volunteers at the Suffolk County Detachment, Marine Corps League and has served as the Junior Vice Commandant, Paymaster, Sergeant-at-Arms, Web Master, and chair of the detachment's high school scholarship committee as well as a Big with the non-profit Big Brothers Big Sisters as a youth mentor.
