First Sergeant Simeon Merid

First Sergeant Simeon Merid graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, in September 2004.

Following recruit training, Private First Class Merid attended Marine Combat Training and then Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) School located at Ft. Bliss, Texas. In March 2005, upon completion of MOS school, Lance Corporal Merid was assigned the MOS 7212, Low Altitude Air Defense Gunner, and reported to Detachment Alpha, 4th Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Smyrna, Georgia.

In October 2005, Lance Corporal Merid conducted an Inter-Unit Transfer from the recently disbanded 4th LAAD Bn to the newly formed Personnel Retrieval Processing Company. From December 2005 to May 2007, Lance Corporal Merid was activated and deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq, with 1st Marine Logistics Group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Mortuary Affairs Specialist.

Upon returning from deployment, Lance Corporal Merid was accepted into and completed the City of Atlanta Police Academy, becoming a sworn peace officer in the State of Georgia.

In June 2008, Corporal Merid was activated and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, with 1st Marine Logistics Group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Mortuary Affairs Specialist/Team Leader. In August 2009, Corporal Merid was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In June 2011, Sergeant Merid was activated and deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, with 2nd Marine Logistics Group in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sergeant Merid served as the Marine Liaison at the Army Theater Mortuary Evacuation Point. He was then reassigned to serve as the Platoon Sergeant for the Sort Lot (retrograde point) for Helmand Province.

In June 2013, Staff Sergeant Merid was activated on ADOS to serve as Training/Operations Chief at Detachment PRP Company in JBAB Anacostia, Washington, DC.

In April 2015, Staff Sergeant Merid completed the City of San Jose Police Academy, becoming a sworn peace officer in the State of California. In October 2015, he transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, 4th Tanks Battalion in San Diego, California, to serve as the Combat Service Support Chief.

In January 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Merid transferred back to PRP Co to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In May 2022, 1stSgt Merid was promoted to his current rank and was assigned as the Company First Sergeant to Maintenance Services Company, CLB 23, CLR 4, in Sacramento, California. In January 2025, 1stSgt Merid transferred back to PRP Co to serve as the Company First Sergeant.

Throughout his career, First Sergeant Merid has attended multiple annual training evolutions, including Medical Training Exercise in Central & Eastern Europe (MEDCEUR), Chisinau, Moldova in July 2007, Skopje, Macedonia in June 2013, Mortuary Affairs Operations at Landstuhl, Germany Regional Medical Center in September 2007 and September 2009, Enhanced Mojave Viper at 29 Palms in May 2008, Northern Strike in Michigan in August 2019 and 2023, Defense POW/MIA Accountability Agency Recovery Mission in Danang, Vietnam in February 2020, and Integrated Training Exercise at 29 Palms in June 2024.

First Sergeant Merid's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Certificates of Commendation.

First Sergeant Merid currently serves his community as a local police officer in California.
