Lieutenant Colonel Chris Cheung is a native of Orlando, Florida and graduated from The Citadel in 2005 with a B.S. in Chemistry. He commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in 2005 and completed The Basic School and Air Intelligence Officer Course.
In 2006, Second Lieutenant Cheung served as the Current Intelligence Officer, G-2, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan and participated in various INDOPACOM exercises. First Lieutenant Cheung later transferred to 12th Marines Regiment and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as an Afghan National Army Embedded Training Advisor with Task Force Phoenix. Following his combat tour, First Lieutenant Cheung attended the Marine Air Ground Task Force Intelligence Officer Course.
In 2009, Captain Cheung served as the Marine Detachment Officer-In-Charge, Special U.S. Liaison Advisor, Korea. Following his tour in the Korean Theater of Operation, he transferred to Quantico in 2011 to serve as the AFRICOM and SOCOM Mission Manager at Marine Corps Intelligence Activity.
In 2016, Major Cheung served as a Civil Affairs Officer, 2d Civil Affair Group, Joint Base Anacostia Bolling and led a Civil Affairs Detachment to provide exercise support to the Black Sea Rotational Force. In 2019, after the decommissioning of 2d CAG, he stayed on with the new unit, Marine Corps Advisor Company A, and mobilized as the S-2 for SPMAGTF-Southern Command 20.
In 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Cheung served as a Defense Engagement Officer, Marine Innovation Unit, Newburgh, NY and assisted Marine Warfighting Lab in safeguarding research and development efforts for the Marine Corps.
In June of 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Cheung was assigned to his current billet as Commanding Officer, Intelligence Support Battalion, New Orleans, Louisiana.
