Biography

 

Colonel James A. Kidd
Commanding Officer
14th Marine Regiment

Colonel Kidd entered the Marine Corps Reserve in 1992. After completing the School of Infantry, he served as a rifleman with 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines until 1996. He was commissioned in 1998 and, following The Basic School and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to 3d Battalion, 11th Marines. During this tour he served as a Forward Observer, Guns Platoon Commander, Battalion Logistics Officer, and Battery Executive Officer.

In December of 2002, Colonel Kidd reported to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit for duty as the Target Information Officer. During this tour he deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

In 2005 Colonel Kidd attended Expeditionary Warfare School and, upon completion, he reported to 1st Battalion, 10th Marines. He commanded Charlie Battery for a deployment in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and deployed again in support of Combined Joint Task Force  - Horn of Africa.

In 2009 Colonel Kidd was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, Manpower Management, Enlisted Assignments where he served as a Monitor Unit Head and Assistant Section Head. He then attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. 

In 2012 Colonel Kidd reported to 2d Battalion, 11th Marines for duty as the Battalion Executive Officer. In 2013 he deployed as the Operations Advisor for the final Afghan National Police Advisor Team in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Following his Afghanistan deployment, Colonel Kidd assumed duties as the Regimental Operations Officer for 11th Marines.

In 2015 Colonel Kidd assumed Command of 3rd Battalion 11th Marines.  Following a successful command tour, he attended the Naval War College from 2017-2018. Upon graduation, he reported to US Special Operations Command for duty as CJ-5 planner.

In 2020, Colonel Kidd deployed to Kuwait as the Chief of Operations for Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.  Upon redeployment in 2021, he served as the Director of Range and Training Programs Division, Training and Education Command.

On 9 July 2022, he assumed his current duties as Commanding Officer of 14th Marine Regiment.

Colonel Kidd is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School, The Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Naval War College.  He is holds a BS in Political Science from the University of Houston and a MA in National Security Studies from the Naval War College.
