Sergeant Major Jacob L. Karl
Command Senior Enlisted Leader
4th Marine Aircraft Wing Site Support

Sergeant Major Karl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from Aberdeen, WA in July of 1995 and completed recruit training at Recruit Depot San Diego, CA with 3rd Recruit Training Battalion in October of 1995. Following recruit training he attended the
School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion, he then attended the Basic Security Guard Course, Chesapeake, VA and was assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, CA in February of 1996.
Private First Class Karl was promoted to Lance Corporal in July 1996.
 
In May 1998, he was assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, Camp Pendleton, Ca. Lance Corporal Karl was promoted to Corporal July 1998. He deployed with Battalion Landing Team 2/4 with the 31st MEU (SOC) serving as the 1st Squad Leader for
the Assault Section and Breaching NCO, participating in Operation Sudden Storm, Operation Contingency, and Operation Southern Watch.
 
In June 1999, he conducted a lateral move to become an 1142 Electrical Equipment Repair Technician. He was promoted to Sergeant July of 1999, and received TAD orders to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, Utilities Platoon where he served as the Platoon Sergeant.
Upon completion of Engineer school, he was transferred to Alpha Company, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3rd Marine Air Wing.
 
In March 2002, he reported to Recruiters School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. Upon completion of Recruiter School, he was assigned to Recruiting Station Portland, OR, Recruiting Sub Station Gresham, OR, Permanent Contact Station Pendleton, OR
for 36 Months as a Recruiter. Sergeant Karl was promoted to Staff Sergeant July of 2003.
 
In June 2005, he reported to 1st Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 15, where he served as the Platoon Sergeant, Electrical Section Floor Chief, and the Maintenance Chief. Staff Sergeant Karl went on two deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom,
the first with Combat Logistics Battalion 5 as the Organics Chief, in Camp Fallujah Iraq, and the second as the Logistics Officer with Police Transition Team-20 in Rawah, Iraq. In March 2009, he reported to 7TH Engineer Support Battalion where he served as the
Maintenance Chief. He deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom with 7TH Engineer Support Battalion FWD October 2009-2010 he assumed duties as the Utilities Maintenance and Operations Chief. Staff Sergeant Karl was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant July of
2010.
 
From July 2010 to August 2015 served with Marine Air Control Squadron 2, Marine Tactical Air Control Squadron 38, 3rd Maintenance Battalion, and Marine Wing Support Squadron 172. He served in the billets of Utilities Chief, and Company First
Sergeant. Gunnery Sergeant Karl supported Operations Damanyan, and training operations Balikatan and Phiblex during this time. Gunnery Sergeant Karl was promoted to First Sergeant March 2016.
 
In March of 2016, he reported to Headquarters Regiment, Combat Logistics Regiment 37. He served in Communications Company, 3D Marine Logistics Group, and Bravo Company, H&S BN, MCIPAC-MCB, Okinawa Japan. May 2019 First Sergeant Karl executed
Permanent Change of Station, and assumed his duties as the Bravo Detachment, MWCS-38 First Sergeant. He was promoted to Sergeant Major March 2020.
 
Sergeant Major Karl served with Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 and Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502 Jan 20.22 from March 2020 to June  2023. He assumed his current duties as the Sergeant Major, Marine Aircraft Group 41, Detachment Bravo June 2023
 
Sergeant Major Karl's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of second award, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of second award, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
