First Sergeant Julio A. Avila
Unit Senior Enlisted Leader
Quebec Battery, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

First Sergeant Julio Avila is a native of Los Angeles, California.  After completing high school, First Sergeant Avila enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 2003. Private Avila completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA in October 2003.  Private Avila reported to School of Infantry, Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA in October then proceeded to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for Motor Vehicle Operators Course where he was promoted to Private First Class.  He graduated from Military Occupational School as a Logistic Vehicle Support Operator in April 2004.
 
PFC Avila then immediately reported to Bulk Fuel Transport Platoon, General Support Motor Transport, 6th Motor Transport Battalion in Las Vegas, NV.  Private First Class Avila was activated for a deployment on June 2, 2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom II where he held the billet of Bulk Fuel Operator.  In September 2004 he was promoted to Lance Corporal.  He returned from Iraq in June 2005.  In March 2007 Lance Corporal Avila was meritoriously promoted to Corporal.  Corporal Avila assumed the duties of Training Clerk for Bulk Fuel Transport Platoon.  In December 2008 Corporal Avila was activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom 9.2.  He served as squad leader for First Platoon General Support Motor Transport, 2nd Supply Battalion - Reinforced (REIN).  In April 2009 Corporal Avila was promoted to Sergeant.  Sergeant Avila returned home then reported to Bulk Fuel Transport Platoon in Las Vegas, NV in December 2009.  
 
Sergeant Avila was activated with 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  While deployed to Camp Leatherneck with 2nd Supply Battalion, Sergeant Avila served as retrograde chief to assist minimizing the Marine Corps footprint within Helmand Province.  Sergeant Avila returned home in July 2012 and reported to Bulk Fuel Transport Platoon in Las Vegas, NV.  
 
In March 2013 Sergeant Avila reported to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).  In July 2013 Sergeant Avila was promoted to Staff Sergeant. During his time in the IRR he was deployed as a civilian contractor with the Army to Jalabad, Afghanistan while continuing to maintain a satisfactory status with the Marine Corps.
 
In February 2015 Staff Sergeant Avila reported to Transportation Services Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 23 (CLB-23), 4th Marine Logistics Battalion in Lathrop, CA.  Where he assumed the duties of Platoon Sergeant for Motor Transport Platoon.  In March 2016 Staff Sergeant Avila was activated for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force (SP-MAGTF) South Command, in support of Combatant Commanders in Honduras.  While deployed Staff Sergeant Avila filled multiple roles.  Staff Sergeant Avila served as Company Gunnery Sergeant, Landing Support Chief and lead translator for host nation.  In November 2013 Staff Sergeant Avila returned home and reported to CLB-23.  While assigned to CLB-23 Staff Sergeant Avila served as Motor Transport Operations Chief, Training Chief and for a brief period Platoon Commander.  
 
Staff Sergeant Avila was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in June 2019.  Gunnery Sergeant Avila was activated for the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) in support of the Georgia Deployment Program in Tbilisi, Georgia in November 2019.  While deployed Gunnery Sergeant Avila served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Georgia Training Team.  Gunnery Sergeant Avila returned home and reported to CLB-23 in November 2020.  
 
Gunnery Sergeant Avila transferred units and reported March 2021 to Battery N, 5th Battalion, 14th Marines to serve as the Motor Transport Chief.  While attached to Battery N, Gunnery Sergeant Avila was asked to deploy as an augment to Battery F, 2D Battalion, 14th Marines in February 2022.  Gunnery Sergeant Avila served as the Motor Transport Chief during UDP 22.2 deployment to Okinawa, Japan.  Upon return from his deployment he found out his unit had gotten activated and were set to deploy to Okinawa, Japan in support of the MEU.  
 
In January 2023 Gunnery Sergeant Avila then proceeded to transfer to Lemoore, CA and served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for MWSS 473 Det A.
 
On June 1st, 2023, Gunnery Sergeant Avila was promoted to First Sergeant and transferred to Battery Q, 5th Battalion, 14th Marines where he serves as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.
 
First Sergeant Avila personal awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal (JSAM).
 
First Sergeant Avila holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Technical Communications and Networking from Devry University.
