Lieutenant Colonel Karl M. Sigwarth
Commanding Officer
2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

Lieutenant Colonel Sigwarth is the Commanding Officer for 2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division.

He completed Officer Candidate School during the summer of 2006, and accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps upon graduation summa cum laude from the University of Maryland - College Park in May 2007.

Upon completion of The Basic School and Field Artillery Officer's Basic Course, he reported to 2d Bn, 11th Marines in September of 2008 for duty as a/an: FDO, Headquarters Platoon Commander, Training Officer, and Forward Observer for Battery G; Forward Observer for G Company, 2d Bn, 5th Marines; Artillery LNO for Battery K, 3d Bn, 12th Marines, and Artillery LNO for 3d Bn, 5th Marines. During this period he deployed to Okinawa and mainland Japan with G Company, 2d Bn, 5th Marines with the 31st MEU (SOC), participating in joint Exercise Forest Light with the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force. He subsequently participated in Operation Freedom Banner in the Republic of Korea, and then deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom with 3d Bn, 5th Marines. While deployed to Sangin, he served as 3/5's Artillery LNO, Assistant Fire Support Coordinator, and Battalion Information Operations Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Sigwarth graduated from Harvard Law School in May 2014. He passed the Texas Bar Examination in 2014, and affiliated with 2d Bn, 14th Marines in April 2016, where he initially served as Operations Officer, HIMARS Planner, Current Operations Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Battalion Fire Direction Officer. He passed the Iowa Bar Examination in February 2017, and in June 2018 he assumed command of Headquarters Battery, 2d Bn, 14th Marines, holding command until June 2019 when he assumed the billet of Battalion Executive Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Sigwarth served as 2d Bn 14th Marines' Battalion Executive Officer from June 2019 through September 2021, during which 2d Bn, 14th Marines executed three Annual Training exercises and deployed multiple HIMARS platoons in support of operations in the CENTCOM, INDOPACOM, EUCOM, and AFRICOM theaters.

In September 2021, Lieutenant Colonel Sigwarth joined 14th Marine Regiment, where he served as the Regimental Assistant Fire Support Coordinator, Assistant Operations Officer, and Logistics Officer. In this capacities, he supported multiple exercises in the EUCOM and INDOPACOM theaters as well as the regiment's 2023 Annual Training exercise, 2024's joint, high-visibility Ivy Mass exercise (in support of the 4th Infantry Division), and the regiment's 2025 Annual Training exercise. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in July 2024, and assumed command of 2nd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment during August 2025.

Lieutenant Colonel Sigwarth earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Maryland-College Park, and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3x) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is a 2018 Distinguished Graduate from Expeditionary Warfare School, a 2020 Distinguished Graduate from Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and a 2025 graduate of the United States Air Force Air War College.
