Major Kevin M. Hegerberg
Battery Commander
Delta Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

Major Kevin M. Hegerberg is a native of Portland, Oregon. In 2008 he was accepted to Oregon State University in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps where he majored in American Studies. He graduated in May 2012. Second Lieutenant Hegerberg was commissioned on 7 September 2012. 

After completing The Basic School in November 2013, Second Lieutenant Hegerberg checked in to the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leaders Course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma in April 2014. Second Lieutenant Hegerberg was promoted to First Lieutenant in July 2014 and graduated as a basic Field Artillery Officer and Joint Fires Observer (JFO) in November 2014.  Upon graduation from Fort Sill, he reported to Headquarters Battery, 2d Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment as a forward observer from October 2014 to November 2015.  From May 2015 to November 2015, he was attached to Company E, 2d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment and deployed in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as a Company Fire Support Observer.     

From November 2015 to February 2016, First Lieutenant Hegerberg served as Fire Direction Officer for Battery E, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment. He then took over as Guns Platoon Commander/ Assistant Executive Officer for Battery F, 2d Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment. First Lieutenant Hegerberg deployed with Battery F attached to 2d Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment in support of the 31st MEU from May 2016 to November 2016. Upon his return from the 31st MEU, First Lieutenant Hegerberg assumed duties as the Battery Executive Officer until accepting orders to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Target Information Officer in June of 2017. When he joined the 13th MEU he was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 August 2017.

Captain Hegerberg deployed with the 13th MEU/ USS ESSEX Amphibious Ready Group from July 2018 until March 2019. While a part of the 13th MEU, Captain Hegerberg performed additional duties as the senior Standing Watch Officer and Fire Support Officer when the assigned FSO was ashore. 

Upon return from the MEU, Captain Hegerberg resigned his active-duty commission and joined the Selected Marine Corps Reserves on 7 June 2019 and assumed duties as HIMARS Planner for 2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment. In September 2019, Captain Hegerberg transferred to Battery F, 2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment and simultaneously held positions as platoon Fire Direction Officer and Platoon Commander. Beginning in May 2021, Captain Hegerberg assumed duties as Battery Executive Officer. He was activated on 7 March 2022 and deployed in support of contingency operations in the Indo-Pacific Command and was attached to 3d Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment. Captain Hegerberg was deactivated on 31 December 2022. Captain Hegerberg continued to serve as the Executive Officer until being appointed as the Battery Commander for Battery D, 2D Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment. Captain Hegerberg was promoted to the rank of Major in July 2023.

Major Hegerberg's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a gold star in lieu of second award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He has a Master's Degree in Regional and City Planning and serves as a Community Development Coordinator for the City of Newcastle, Oklahoma.
