Sergeant Major Rodney J. Redhead
Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment

Sergeant Major Redhead is a native of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies.  He enlisted into the Marine Corps on 25 September 2000 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, South Carolina.  After follow-on training at Marine Combat Training School, Camp Geiger, North Carolina, he reported to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools, Camp Johnson, North Carolina, and received the MOS of 0151, Administrative Clerk.

In March 2001, Sergeant Major Redhead was promoted to Private First Class and reported to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as an Order Writing Clerk and Manpower Assignments Clerk.  He was promoted to Lance Corporal in November 2001 and then to Corporal in November 2002.

In October 2003, Sergeant Major Redhead reenlisted and reported to the Command Element, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Camp Pendleton, California where he served as the S-1 Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) in Charge, Awards and Fitness Reports NCO and Training NCO.  In January 2004, he attended the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Corporal’s Course and was the Honor Graduate.  In February 2004, he was selected as the 11th MEU NCO of the Quarter, 2nd Quarter, 2004.  Sergeant Major Redhead was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May 2004.  While at the MEU, he deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  In October 2006 he attended Sergeant’s Course at Camp Pendleton, California, and was the Honor Graduate.

In April 2007, Sergeant Major Redhead was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California where he was the Honor Graduate from Drill Instructor School, Class 3-07. Sergeant Major Redhead was assigned to Company B, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor.  In 2008 he was selected as the 1st Battalion Drill Instructor of the Quarter and Regimental Drill Instructor of the Quarter, 3rd Quarter, 2008.  In October 2009, Sergeant Major Redhead attended the Staff Sergeant’s Career Course at Camp Pendleton, California and was both the Honor Graduate and the Gung Ho Award recipient.  In December 2009, he transferred to Instructor Staff, Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California where he served as the Physical Training Instructor.

In April 2010, Sergeant Major Redhead reported to Plans, Policy, and Operations Branch, Headquarters Marine Corps.  While there, he augmented to Officer Candidates School, Quantico, Virginia where he served as a Sergeant Instructor and Platoon Sergeant.  He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in February 2011.  In October 2014, Sergeant Major Redhead was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and reported to D Company, 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He attached to Battalion Landing Team 2d Battalion 6th Marines and deployed in support of the 26th MEU.  In February 2018, Sergeant Major Redhead reported to 2d Maintenance Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Motor Transportation Maintenance Company.  In February 2019, Sergeant Major Redhead was promoted to his current rank and reported to 2d Battalion 24th Marines, 23d Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, Chicago Illinois.

Sergeant Major Redhead’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one silver star in lieu of sixth award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award.
