Biography

 

Lieutenant Colonel Rhett A. Hansen
Inspector-Instructor
2d Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment

Rhett Hansen was commissioned in May 2003 after graduating from Mid America Nazarene University

Upon completion of The Basic School and the Infantry Officer’s Course, Second Lieutenant Hansen was assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, from May 2004 to May 2007.  During this time he served as Rifle Platoon Commander, Company C, and Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, Weapons Company.  He deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in 2004 and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006. 

In June 2007, First Lieutenant Hansen was assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Kings Bay, until June 2010.  During which he was promoted to Captain, served as Guard Force Platoon Commander, Recapture Tactics Platoon Commander, and Assistant Operations Officer. 

In June 2010, Captain Hansen completed the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) and Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group’s Operation Tactics Instructor course. Upon graduation of EWS, he received orders to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, in June 2011. 

As the Company C Commander, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in March 2012. In February 2013, Captain Hansen reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, to assume the billet of Operations Officer where he was promoted to the rank of Major, and in January 2015 was assigned the billet of Executive Officer.

In July 2015, Major Hansen assumed the billet of India Company, 3d Battalion, 23d Marines, Inspector Instructor, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. During this time Major Hansen completed the Command and Staff College Distance Education Program earning the with distinction qualifier. 

Major Hansen reported to the PP&O Joint Staff Branch in July 2018 and was assigned the billet of Joint Action Control Officer and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. At PP&O LtCol Hansen supported the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Operations Deputies battle rhythm, and managed joint tasking for Headquarters Marine Corps.     

LtCol Hansen completed his PP&O tour in June 2021 and was subsequently assigned to Marine Corps Central Command and served as the G-5 Strategy and Policy Branch Head until June 2022. LtCol Hansen’s portfolios included Echelon II Naval Integration and regional crisis response collaboration. 

LtCol Hansen is the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal (second award), Naval Commendation Medal (third award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device (second award).
