First Sergeant John D. Weltzin

First Sergeant Weltzin was raised in Lake Park, Iowa where he enlisted for service after high school. His Marine Corps career began on 6 August 2006 when he attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA followed by Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA. In December 2006, First Sergeant Weltzin attended Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, NC where he was given the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of Hygiene Equipment Operator (1171).

First Sergeant Weltzin received orders to 7th Engineer Support Battalion (7th ESB), Camp Pendleton, California where he served from May 2007 to Oct 2010. Upon arriving at 7th ESB he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal and later to Corporal. During his tour with 7th ESB he completed two deployments in support of operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

In October of 2010 First Sergeant Weltzin received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 (MWSS-273), Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina. During his time During his time with MWSS-273 he completed Advance Water Support Technician course, and Corporals Course as well as being promoted to the rank of Sergeant before deploying for a third time to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring freedom. Once returning from deployment he received orders to MCRD San Diego.

In January of 2014 First Sergeant Weltzin attended Drill Instructor School in San Diego California where he graduated and was assigned to 1st Battalion, Delta Company. During his time on the drill field he did 4 cycles as a green belt and 2 cycles as a senior drill instructor as well as being promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being assigned as the crucible liaison for MCRD San Diego. Upon completion of his time on MCRD San Diego First Sergeant Weltzin received orders to 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Okinawa, Japan.

In May of 2017 at Okinawa Japan he was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Engineer Maintenance Company where he served for 12 months before being assigned as the Regimental Legal Chief for CLR-35. He served as the Regimental Legal Chief for 18 months before receiving orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion (9th ESB), Utilities Platoon. During his time with 9th ESB he served as the water section Operations Chief before being promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and receiving orders to Marine Air Control Squadron 1, Yuma, AZ.

In May of 2021, First Sergeant Weltzin reported to Marine Air Control Squadron he was assigned to Charlie Company, later designated as Company M, where he served as the Motor Transport/Utilities SNCOIC. In January of 2022 First Sergeant Weltzin was attached to VMM-268 and deployed in support of Marine Rotation Forces Darwin serving as the S-4 Chief. During his time in Australia he completed Advance course where he graduated as distinguished graduate. In November of 2023 he was selected to his current rank of First Sergeant and received orders to Site Support, 2nd Battalion 24th Marines, Echo Company, Granger, IA where he currently works as the senior enlisted advisor, inspector instructor staff.

First Sergeant Weltzin's personal award include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal second award.
