First Sergeant Matthew D. Jones

1stSgt Jones enlisted for service after high school. His Marine Corps career began on 2 August 2004 when he attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA followed by Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA. In December 2004, 1stSgt Jones attended Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, NC where he was the Distinguished Graduate and received a meritorious promotion to Lance Corporal along with the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of Combat Engineer (1371).
 
1stSgt Jones received orders to Combat Assault Battalion, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan where he served from March 2005 to May 2007. During his tour in Japan he completed three deployments aboard the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) where he was attached in direct support of Battalion Landing Teams 2/4, 2/5, and 2/1 respectively. 
 
After returning from the MEU, 1stSgt Jones executed orders Weapons & Field Training Battalion, Parris Island, SC. During his assignment at Parris Island 1stSgt Jones earned the additional MOS' of Marksmanship Coach (0933) and Marksmanship Trainer (0931). 
 
In May 2009, 1stSgt Jones received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron-371 in Yuma, AZ. In January 2010, he earned a spot on the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma Shooting Team and won a gold medal and Secretary of the Navy Trophy Rifle at the 2010 Western Division Matches held at Camp Pendleton, CA. After returning to Yuma, 1stSgt Jones deployed to Afghanistan from September 2011 until April 2012. Upon returning from Afghanistan 1stSgt Jones was assigned as the Company Operations Chief where he served until receiving orders to Marine Security Guard (MSG) School in March of 2014.
 
 Upon graduating MSG school as Detachment Commander, 1stSgt Jones executed orders overseas where he served as the Detachment Commander at the U.S. Embassy in Riga, Latvia and later Yaounde, Cameroon. Following a successful tour in Cameroon, 1stSgt Jones was extended on the MSG program and served 12 additional months assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland.

In March of 2018, 1stSgt Jones traveled back to the United States for his next assignment aboard the Marine Corps Engineer School where he served as an instructor and the Explosive Obstacles section head and later serving as a curriculum developer aboard the school. 
 
1stSgt Jones assumed his current assignment as Inspector Instructor First Sergeant for Company E, 2d Battalion, 24th Marines in July of 2020.
