First Sergeant, Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment First Sergeant Brian Joachim

First Sergeant Joachim is a native of Waterloo, Iowa.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps 19 May 1997 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Upon completion of recruit training, he attached to Charlie Battery 1/14 in Waterloo, Iowa. During the summer of 1998 LCpl Joachim then reported to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama where he received the Military Occupational Specialty, 2311 Ammunition Technician.


Upon graduation, he reported back to Charlie Battery 1/14 in Waterloo, Iowa.  LCpl Joachim attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California during the summer of 1999 and graduated as the Guide.


As a Corporal, he was the Battery’s Ammunition Chief, filling a Staff Non Commissioned Officer’s billet.  In 2003 he was promoted to Sergeant and attended the Sergeant’s Resident Course in 2004. Sergeant Joachim deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)in 2005 serving as the Battalion Ammunition Chief as Task Force MPs for 5/14. While in Iraq, Sergeant Joachim was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2006.


In 2006 Charlie Battery deactivated and Staff Sergeant Joachim reported to General Support Maintenance Company in Rock Island, Illinois as the Training Chief. Staff Sergeant Joachim attended Career Course in Quantico, Virginia in 2008. In 2009 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for General Support Maintenance Company.


In 2010 Gunnery Sergeant Joachim reported to Advanced Course in Quantico, Virginia.  Gunnery Sergeant Joachim deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)in 2011 serving as the Special Equipment Items OIC for 2nd Maintenance Battalion. Upon return of his deployment in 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Joachim transferred to the Inactive Ready Reserves due to being a MOS mismatch.


In February of 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Joachim joined H&S Company 2/24 in Chicago, Illinois as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. Gunnery Sergeant Joachim was promoted to First Sergeant in April of 2017 and is currently serving as the Company First Sergeant for Golf Company 2/24 in Madison, Wisconsin.


His personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ 3 Gold Stars and the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal w/ 3 Bronze Stars.
