Biography

 

First Sergeant Brian J. Parfitt

First Sergeant Brian J. Parfitt enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program in January of 2002, and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in September 2002.  Upon graduation of recruit training in December of 2002, Private First Class Parfitt reported to School of Infantry West, Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion of Marine Combat Training, Private First Class Parfitt reported to Assault Amphibian School Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California where he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty(MOS) of 1833 AAV Crewman.

In April 2003 Private First Class Parfitt was assigned to Echo Company, 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton.  During his tour, he fulfilled the duties as driver, and as a AAV Crew Chief and deployed in May 2004 with the 11th MEU, BLT 1/4, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II(OIF). During his deployment to OIF II he was promoted to the rank of Corporal in November 2004. 

In September 2006, Corporal Parfitt met his end of active service and left the Marine Corps.  

In November 2006, Corporal Parfitt returned to Marine Corps for duty with Alpha Company, 4th Tank Battalion, Camp Pendleton as part of the Select Marine Corps Reserve.  During this assignment he obtained the MOS of 1812 Armor Crewman at the Marine Corps Armor Crewman Course in Fort Knox, Kentucky.  Following school he reported back to Alpha Company, 4th Tanks and was promoted in November 2007 to the rank of Sergeant.  He assumed the duties as a Tank Gunner, and deployed in February 2008 in support of OIF.

In March 2009, Sergeant Parfitt returned to active duty and reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California.  During this assignment Sergeant Parfitt attended the School of Infantry West and Light Armored Vehicle Training Company, Camp Pendleton, California obtaining the MOS 0313 Light Armored Vehicle Crewman.  During his tour he served as a Vehicle Commander, Section Leader, and Platoon Sergeant.  While assigned to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion he deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning from his second deployment to Afghanistan he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in October 2012. 

In January 2014, Staff Sergeant Parfitt reported to Recruiting Station Lansing for duty as a Canvassing Recruiter where he immediately assumed the duties as Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of Recruiting Sub-Station Northern Michigan.  He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in December 2016.

In March 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Parfitt reported to Delta Company, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as Platoon Sergeant and deployed in July 2018 with the 13th MEU, BLT 3/1.  After returning from the 13th MEU, Gunnery Sergeant Parfitt assumed the duties as Operations Chief, for Bravo Company until he was promoted to his current rank of First Sergeant in June 2020. 
 
In June 2020, First Sergeant Parfitt assumed his present duties as the Inspector Instructor First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 24th Marines, in Fort Sheridan, Illinois.  

First Sergeant Parfitt's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.
