Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battlion Sergeant Major Ryan P. Flynn

Sergeant Major Ryan Patrick Flynn was born 8 March 1980. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 14 July 1997, attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego on 21 July 1998 and graduated 10 October 1998. After recruit training he attended the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, California where he obtained the MOS of 0311.

In December of 1998 LCpl Flynn received orders to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines. Upon checking in he was assigned to Alpha Company, 3rd platoon. While serving with 1/4, he completed two west-pac MEUs and deployed for OIF 1.

In December of 2003 Sgt Flynn executed orders to School of Infantry West for duty as a Combat Instructor. While at SOI he served as instructor and platoon sergeant in Golf Company MCT, podium instructor in Headquarters and Instructor Company MCT, platoon commander in Hotel Company MCT, and instructor at Infantry Squad Leaders Course, Advanced Infantry Training Company.

In November of 2007 SSgt Flynn received orders to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines for duty. While at 2/5 SSgt Flynn served as a weapons platoon commander in Fox Company and rifle platoon sergeant in Golf Company. During this time he completed one west-pac and one 31st MEU deployment.

Upon return from Okinawa, GySgt Flynn executed orders to MCAGCC 29 palms for duty as an instructor/controller with TTECG. GySgt Flynn served as a coyote with Infantry Battalion Team East for three years before executing orders back to Camp Pendleton.

In March of 2013 GySgt Flynn reported into 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines for duty with Golf Company as the Company GySgt. There he completed one 31st MEU deployment to Okinawa.

In June of 2014 First Sergeant Flynn executed orders to Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry West where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company D. In December of 2015 he transferred to Combat Instructor School to serve as the School First Sergeant.

Sergeant Major Flynn was frocked to his present rank in December of 2017 and transferred to his current assignment with 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion for duty as the I&I Battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Flynn’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat “V” and two stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
