Major Luke A. Pernotto graduated from the Virginia Military Institute on a Four Year NROTC Scholarship in May 2001. He attended The Basic School in July of 2001 and graduated in February 2002 from Infantry Officer Course. From there he reported to 1st Battalion 5th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander and Weapons Platoon Commander for Bravo Company. In these billets he deployed twice for Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II.
In December of 2004, First Lieutenant Pernotto received orders to Security Force Company Bahrain to serve as Platoon Commander and Executive Officer.
In August of 2006 Captain Pernotto executed orders to School of Infantry West and served as a Company Commander in Infantry Training Battalion and the Executive Officer in Infantry Unit Leaders Training Company.
In May of 2008, Captain Pernotto reported to Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines. He served as Company Commander for both Headquarters and Service Company and Lima Company. While in these billets he made deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan respectively.
In May of 2011, Captain Pernotto received orders to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One. There he served in the Ground Combat Department and was instrumental in the creation and initial execution of the first four Talon Exercises.
In July 2014, Major Pernotto received orders to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to serve as the Operations Officer of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. Following a deployment to Mihail Kogălniceanu, Romania as part of the Black Sea Rotational Force, he assumed the billet of Executive Officer 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. In March of 2016 Maj Pernotto deployed to Camp Lemonier, Djibouti to serve as a Future Plans Officer with Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa. Upon his return from Africa in September 2016 Maj Pernotto assumed the billet of Future Plans Officer for 2D Marine Division, Camp Lejeune.
In June of 2017 Maj Pernotto received orders to Commander Naval Forces Japan / Commander Naval Region Japan to serve as the N70; Joint / Bilateral Exercise and Operations Officer, N36; Integrated Operations Training Readiness Program Director, and CNFJ/CNRJ Deputy Operational Support Officer.
