Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant, Company G, 2nd Bn., 25th Marines First Sergeant Eduardo Ascencio

First Sergeant Ascencio was born in Chicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 16 November 1999 at Chicago, Illinois. Upon completion of recruit training at San Diego, California; he was assigned to School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion of school he reported to Company B, Weapons platoon for duty with 1st Battalion 8th Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC as a mortarman.

During assignment with, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for three years, he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea as BLT 1/8 for 22nd MEU (SOC) from 2000-2001. Upon return of the deployment, LCpl Ascencio was sent to Advance Infantry Mortar Leaders Course to become the next section leader for the 60mm Mortar Section of Weapons Platoon Company B. In March of 2003 he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/8 as a Section Leader where he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of combat operations in Northern Iraq with the 26th MEU (SOC).

In February of 2004 Sgt Ascencio was transferred to School of Infantry East Camp Geiger, North Carolina, where he served as a classroom Mortar Instructor for entry level students. During this tour of duty he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and attended the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy in Camp Johnson, NC.

In May of 2007, Sgt Ascencio received orders back to the operating forces and was assigned to 1st Battalion 8th Marines for another tour. During this time, 1st Sgt Ascencio was assigned as section leader/FDC Chief for Weapons Co. 1st Battalion, 8th Marines 81mm Mortar Platoon were he participated in numerous patrols in An Anbar Province Iraq during 2007-2008 deployment and was also responsible for the company’s mobile assault platoon (MAP). During his deployment, Sergeant Ascencio was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on 080101. Upon completion of his deployment, SSgt Ascencio was assigned to become platoon sergeant for 2nd Platoon Company B 1st Battalion 8th Marines

In March 2008 SSgt Ascencio deployed with 1/8 to Al Anbar Providence, Al Asad Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. SSgt Ascencio was responsible for the everyday operation of main entry control point (ECP) and also the development for the reinforcement of ECP. His assignment included, coordinating with Navy Seabees for force protection along the ECP immediate perimeter.

Upon his return to CONUS SSgt Ascencio received orders to MCI Company, Marine Barracks Washington, DC, from 2010 to 2013, where he worked as a distance learning instructor in providing long distant education for Marines worldwide and was a Docent for the Home of the Commandants.

            In April 2013, SSgt Ascencio received orders to 2D Battalion 6th Marines were he was selected and promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and deployed to Okinawa, Japan and 26th MEU and was assigned the billet of 81mm Mortar Section Leader Weapons Co., Platoon Sergeant with Echo Co., Platoon Sergeant for Special Mission at Puget Sound Naval Station Bremerton, Washington; Company Gunnery Sergeant for Golf Company. On January 19, 2017 First Sergeant Ascencio was promoted to his current rank and assigned to Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Golf Company 2D BN 25th Marines.

First Sergeant Ascencio’s personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal in Lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in Lieu of fourth award, Good Conduct Medal in Lieu of fifth award, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
