Sergeant Major Thomas M. DeFrancisci
Command Senior Enlisted Leader
3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment

Sergeant Major DeFrancisci is a native of New Jersey, and has a Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2002, and attended recruit training at MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina 3rd Battalion, Kilo Company. After Recruit Training, he completed Marine Combat Training; he received orders to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for Marine Occupation School as a Motor Transport Operator. Upon completion of Marine Occupation School, Private First Class DeFrancisci received orders to 6th Communication Battalion, Brooklyn, NY.

In July 2004 Lance Corporal DeFrancisci was activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II-2, and participated in operations across Al-Anbar Province, including Operation Phantom Fury. He returned to 6th Communication Battalion in March of 2005.

Lance Corporal DeFrancisci was attached to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group, Twentynine Palms, CA in November 2005, as an instructor at the Virtual Combat Convoy Training Center. He stayed there until he took a new job with the Charlotte Fire Department in March of 2006.

Corporal DeFrancisci moved to Charlotte, NC in 2006 where he was assigned to 4th Maintenance Battalion as a Motor Vehicle Operator. In 2008, Sergeant DeFrancisci was promoted and transferred over to Environmental Service Support Detachment C as an Environmental Team Leader. There he participated in various training missions such as Talisman Sabre, Tradewinds, and Alaskan Road.

Sergeant DeFrancisci was promoted to Staff Sergeant on February 2011 and continued to served as an Environmental Team Lead until he transitioned to Reserve Affairs in 2017. There, Gunnery Sergeant DeFrancisci served as a Transition Advisor where he briefed Marines and Sailors that were coming off of active duty about the Marine Corps reserves and what they offered to those service members. He continued to conduct those briefs until he was selected for First Sergeant.

In 2020 Gunnery Sergeant DeFrancisci was promoted to his current rank of First Sergeant. He returned to the SMCR becoming the Company First Sergeant for Bulk Fuel Co Bravo, Wilmington, DE. As the Senior Enlisted Advisor, First Sergeant DeFrancisci was responsible for ensuring the good welfare, moral, and readiness of 115 plus Marines.

Following his first tour as a Senior Enlisted Leader, in June 2023, First Sergeant DeFrancisci was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 451, Supply Company in Raleigh, NC. There he continued his role of leading and advising 300 plus Marines located at 4 different geographical sites.

Sergeant Major DeFrancisci's personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He is currently a Captain in a Fire Department where he has accumulated multiple personal and company awards for his leadership. Sergeant Major DeFrancisci is also a member of a Fire Department Joint Hazard Assessment Team, where he operates as a Hazmat Technician, providing real time technical advice to a Bomb Squad. First Sergeant DeFrancisci recently took on the role of Coordinator for a Regional Hazmat Response Team that provides emergency response for hazardous materials incidents within 11 counties in Western North Carolina.
