Sergeant Major, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment Sergeant Major Albert J. Rod Jr.

Sergeant Major Rod enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 22 February 1992 in the Delayed Entry Program and reported to Parris Island, SC for Recruit Training in May 1992 and was assigned to India Company, 3d Battalion, Plt 3078 for Recruit Training.  He graduated Boot Camp on 21 August 1992 and reported to the School of Infantry at MCB Camp Lejeune, NC.  Upon completion from MCT, he reported to Ft. Sill OK for Field Artillery School where he was promoted to PFC in November 1992.  Upon graduation he reported to 3d Bn, 11th Mar in 29 Palms, CA where he was attached to Echo Battery , 2d Bn, 12th Mar and was mobilized a month later in December 1992 to Somalia in support of Operation RESTORE HOPE.  In July 1993 he was promoted to LCpl while still serving with Echo 2/12 up until August 1994 when the unit was disbanded and he was transferred to India Battery, 3d Bn, 11th Mar.  In December 1994 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and served with India Battery up until March 1995 when he received orders to 3d Bn, 12th Mar, Okinawa, Japan and was attached to Lima 3/12.  Sergeant Major Rod was honorably discharged from active duty from Separations Company, Camp Pendleton, California in April 1996.

Sergeant Major Rod joined the SMCR in May 1996 and was attached to HQ Btry, 3d bn, 14th Mar.  In November of 1996 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant while filling the Local Security Chief Billet.  In May 1998, Sergeant Rod accepted orders to Motor Transport School at Marine Corps Detachment, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.  In 1999 he attended the Resident Sergeant Course at Camp Crowder, Missouri.  Upon completion, Sergeant Rod filled the Motor Transport Operations Chief billet until July 2001 when he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.  In August 2001 attended Resident Career Course at Camp Crowder, Missouri. Staff Sergeant Rod stayed within the Bn until October 2002 when he decided to drop to the IRR to focus on his Plumbing Company.

Staff Sergeant Rod rejoined HQ Btry March 2003 to fill the Local Security Chief billet and later to become the Battery Gunnery Sergeant.  In May 2006 he was mobilized for the Global War on Terrorism with Task Force MP (REIN), 3d bn, 14th Mar and attached to I & II MEF (FWD), MNF-W, for OIF 05.07.2 & 06.08.1 forward deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  In June 2006 was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, returned back from deployment in May 2007.  In 2008 Gunnery Sergeant Rod stepped down from the Battery Gunnery Sergeant position to assume the Bn Motor Transport Operations Chief billet.  He attended SNCO Advance Resident Course in Quantico, VA in 2010.

Gunnery Sergeant Rod was frocked to First Sergeant in July 2011and reported to 4th CEB in Baltimore, Maryland as Engineer Support Company 1stSgt. He attended the 1stSgt’s Course in Quantico, VA in 2011.  Sergeant Major Rod was frocked on 2 May 2015 to his current rank and will assume the duties as Bn Sergeant Major for 3d Bn, 14th Mar.

Sergeant Major Rod personal awards include Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
