First Sergeant Domenick J. Distano enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 2005 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Private First Class Distano then reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina, for Marine Combat Training (MCT). Upon graduation from MCT, PFC Distano reported to Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood, MO, for Motor Transport Operator training, where he earned the MOS of 3531.
In April 2006 PFC Distano reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, and was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company. In June of 2006, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). While deployed, he participated in Operation Infinite Moonlight and earned a Humanitarian Service Medal for participating in the Noncombatant Evacuation Operation in Beirut, Lebanon. In September 2007, Corporal Distano was deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in support of OIF, where he served as a Motor Transport Operator. In February 2009, Cpl Distano deployed to Al Asad and TQ, Iraq, in support of OIF.
November 2009, Sgt Distano reported to Second Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF), Command Element, G-4 Motor Transport. While assigned to II MEF, Sgt Distano assisted in the fielding and distribution of tactical vehicles.
In October 2011, Sgt Distano reported to MCRD Parris Island for Drill Instructor Duty. He was assigned to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Mike Company. In March of 2011, Sgt Distano completed the requirements for Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival and earned the additional MOS 0918. Sgt Distano served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor and was was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.
SSgt Distano reported to Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO in January 2014. He served as a Basic Instructor and Senior Instructor for Motor Vehicle Operator's Course. While at Fort Leonard Wood, SSgt Distano attended the Semitrailer Refueler Course and earned the additional MOS of 3534. SSgt Distano also attended the Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructors Course and earned the additional MOS of 0916.
In June 2017, SSgt Distano reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Transportation Services Company, where he served in the billets of Truckmaster, Platoon Sergeant, and Platoon Commander.
In February 2019, SSgt Distano was selected for Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI) duty and reported to Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit, Norwich University, Vermont. As an AMOI, he served as a Sergeant Instructor and Platoon Sergeant at Officer Candidates School for Lima and Delta Company.
In May 2022 GySgt Distano reported to The Basic School, Quantico, VA, where he served in the billets of Platoon Sergeant for the Motor Transport Operations platoon and Logistics Operations Chief within the S4 Directorate.
In May 2024 1stSgt Distano was promoted to his current rank and is currently serving as the Inspector Insructor Unit Senior Enlisted Leader, Battery I, 3d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment.
His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (2 Gold Stars) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (1 Gold Star).
