Biography

 

First Sergeant Jerome S. Jones
Inspector-Instructor Unit Senior Enlisted Leader

First Sergeant Jerome S. Jones is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps 29 August 2005 and graduated recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Deport Parris Island, South Carolina on 23 November 2005.  Following recruit training, Private Jones attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina in December 2005.
 
In January 2006, Private Jones reported to the Personnel Administration School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina and upon completion was assigned the MOS 0151, Administrative Clerk.  In February 2006, Private Jones was promoted to the rank of Private First Class.
  
In March 2006, Private First Class Jones transferred to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as Administrative Clerk.  In October 2006, Private First Class Jones was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  In October 2007 he deployed in support of Operational Iraqi Freedom.  In October 2007, Lance Corporal Jones was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

In June 2008, Corporal Jones transferred to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Kings Bay, Georgia where he served as an Administrative Clerk.  During his tour he also served on the Color Guard as a rifleman, Organizational Colors bearer and eventually became the Battalion Color Sergeant.  In April 2009, he was selected as one of Marine Corps Security Forces Regiment meritorious promotion nominees and subsequently was promoted the following May to the rank of Sergeant, meritoriously.

In August 2011, Sergeant Jones was transferred to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Twenty-nine Palms, California.  He served as the Administrative Chief as well as the Battalion Color Sergeant participating in a myriad of color guards, parades and funeral details.  During his tour he also deployed in support of Operational Enduring Freedom on two separate occasions in March 2012 and February 2014.  In April 2014, Sergeant Jones was promoted to rank of Staff Sergeant. 

In July 2015, Staff Sergeant Jones reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon graduation, he was assigned to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Company First Sergeant.  In December 2017, Staff Sergeant Jones was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. 

In December 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Jones reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 462, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Air Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California where he served as the Administrative Chief and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant.  In April 2019, he deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program 19.2 where he also supported the Korean Marine Exchange Program 19.3. 

In July 2021, First Sergeant Jones assumed his current assignment as the Inspector- Instructor Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Rocket Battery K, 2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, Huntsville, Alabama .

First Sergeant Jones' personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 2nd award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of 5th award).
