Biography

 

First Sergeant Jonathan M. Emery

First Sergeant Emery is a native of Rockland, Massachusetts.  First Sergeant Emery enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 25, 2007.  In December 2007, First Sergeant Emery completed recruit training aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina.  First Sergeant Emery reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) in January 2008. 

In February 2008, First Sergeant Emery reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron 1 (MATSS-1) in Meridian, Mississippi, where he completed his primary military occupational specialty (MOS) 6042 school, Individual Material Readiness List (IMRL) Asset Manager Course.  In March 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class.  Upon completion of his primary MOS school in May 2008, First Sergeant Emery reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 (MALS-26) in Jacksonville, North Carolina as an IMRL asset manager.  In November 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In January 2009, First Sergeant Emery deployed to Iraq with MALS-26 REIN in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).  In April 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.  In December 2010, First Sergeant Emery reported to Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 22 (VMX-1) in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he served as the IMRL NCOIC.  In January 2012, First Sergeant Emery reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 266 (VMM-266) in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he served as the IMRL and calibration NCOIC.  In March 2012, in preparation as a composite squadron for the Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) mission, First Sergeant Emery reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1) in Yuma, Arizona, where he served as the IMRL NCOIC for Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI) 1-12.  In April 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In October 2012, First Sergeant Emery reported to MALS-12 in Iwakuni, Japan, where he served as the IMRL NCOIC.  In July 2015, First Sergeant Emery reported to Drill Instructor School 4-15 aboard MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon graduation, First Sergeant Emery was assigned and reported to India Company, Third Recruit Training Battalion in October 2015, where he held the billets of drill instructor, senior drill instructor, and Instructional Training Company (ITC) Company Gunnery Sergeant.  In October 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.  In December 2018, after a successful tour on the drill field, First Sergeant Emery reported to MALS-13 in Yuma, Arizona, where he served as the IMRL Chief.  In March 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In February 2021, First Sergeant Emery reported to Purdue University Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he served as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI) and the Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL).  In August 2024, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.  In August 2024, First Sergeant Emery reported to Battery K, 2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment where he currently holds the billet as Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant in Huntsville, Alabama.

First Sergeant Emery has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Maryland Global Campus.  First Sergeant Emery's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, three gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
