Captain Slaymaker graduated Officer Candidate’s School in 2008 and directly commissioned into the USMCR. He attended TBS in January of 2009 and artillery school in the summer of that same year. In January 2010, he was assigned as Fire Direction Officer of Rocket Battery F, 2/14. He was responsible for the battery FDC during annual training in Fort Sill.
In September of 2010, Captain Slaymaker volunteered to augment Rocket Battery K, 2/14 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned as both 1st Platoon Commander and Fire Direction Officer. He arrived in country in January of 2011 and remained in that billet until their return in August of that year. During the deployment, he received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for developing fire mission processing procedures that allowed for the quickest response time to date in theater. He worked extensively with the Division Fires and Effects Coordinator to determine the most efficient methods of processing fire missions.
Captain Slaymaker returned to Rocket Battery F in August of 2011 where he was assigned as Platoon Commander. In April of 2013, he participated in Operation African Lion with Rocket Battery F as the Platoon Commander and FDO for the single firing platoon that participated.
In July of 2013, he was assigned as Battery Executive Officer at Rocket Battery F until July 2015.
In July of 2015, he was assigned as Battery Commander at Rocket Battery F, which is his current assignment.
