Gunnery Sergeant Jesse B. Garner

Gunnery Sergeant Garner is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. In 2006, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, attended Recruit Training in Parris Island, South Carolina, and Marine Corps Cannoneer Course. After completing training, Private Garner was promoted to Private First Class and subsequently assumed orders to Battery E 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, California.

During this assignment, Private First Class Garner deployed with V 2/1 where he served on the 31st MEU for a year. During this period he was promoted to Lance Corporal and meritoriously promoted to Corporal while on deployment in 2007. Throughout the deployment, Corporal Garner served as a Gunner, A-Chief and also Section Chief. Corporal Garner then deployed again in 2009 with BLT 3/5 in support of the Unit Deployment Program. He served as a Section Chief for four live fire exercises while deployed.

In 2011, Sergeant Garner attended Marine Combat Instructor Course where he then served at School of Infantry West as Permanent Personnel Combat Instructor. He served with three different training companies, where he served in various billets to include Combat Instructor, Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander.

In 2014, Sergeant Garner received orders to 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, where he served as the Local Security Chief for Headquarters Battery. After multiple field operations with Headquarters Battery where he then was assigned to Romeo Battery where he served as Section Chief until promoting to Staff Sergeant in 2015. In 2016, Staff Sergeant Garner transitioned to Headquarters battery where he served as the Headquarters Battery Gunnery Sergeant for six months before transitioning to Quebec Battery to serve as Platoon Sergeant and Ammo Platoon Sergeant. He was also selected to serve as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Maritime Precision Strike 17.3 with TF 111 in 2017. During this deployment he ran multiple mission sets that ranged from HIMARS sea based operations to Maritime Security Operations. Upon return from Deployment Staff Sergeant Garner received orders to Fort Sill Oklahoma to serve as an Instructor.

In 2018, When Staff Sergeant Garner arrived at Marine Corps Cannoneer School he then started leading entry level students and assisted in various curriculum's. In October 2020 Staff Sergeant Garner was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was reassigned to become the Academics Chief where he served until his time ended at Fort Sill.

In 2021, Gunnery Sergeant Garner received orders to 1st Battalion 11th Marine Regiment. During this assignment, Gunnery Sergeant Garner served as the Alpha Battery, Artillery Unit Leader where he deployed with the Battery with V2/4 on the 13th MEU in 2022/2023. Upon returning from deployment he then led the battery six more months before transitioning to Headquarters Battery. He served as the Artillery Unit Leader for Headquarters Battery for five months until he executed orders to November Battery 5/14. He is currently serving as November Battery, Battery Gunnery Sergeant.

His personal decorations include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one silver star.
