Sergeant Major Argueta is a native of Los Angeles, CA. Born to a modest family who hailed from the Central American nation of El Salvador. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in September 2002 and attended boot camp in October 2003 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA.
Following Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA and Field Radio Operator training at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, CA, he was assigned to H&S Company, 2d Battalion (BN), 23d Marine Regiment, 4th Marine DIvision (4thMarDiv) in Encino, CA in April 2004. During this time, Private First Class (PFC) Argueta served as a Field Radio Operator. PFC Argueta remained on active duty serving on Active Duty Special Work orders and was promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl). LCpl Argueta participated in overseas trainings with the unit and was subsequently nominated for and meritoriously promoted to Corporal in October 2005 for his actions and efforts supporting the unit trainings.
In June 2006, during the Marine Corps' downsizing, the unit was transferred to Pasadena, CA, and merged with 4th Low Altitude Air Defense BN. Cpl Argueta distinguished himself as a leader among the expanded unit and was assigned to billets of Field Radio Supervisor and 1st Squad Leader. Cpl Argueta was promoted to Sergeant in October 2006 and reassigned as Assistant Platoon Sergeant for the Communications Platoon. Sergeant Argueta was then assigned to Communications Platoon Sergeant in June 2007.
In December 2008, Sergeant Argueta deployed to Ar-Ramadi, Al-Anbar Province, Iraq, and supported Marine Corps mission Polaris, establishing communications systems for local Iraqi Police Outposts patrolling regions south of the Al-Taqaddum Air Base. He demobilized in January 2010 and promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt) in August 2010.
SSgt Argueta attended Radio Chief Course in January 2011, graduating in the top 5 percent of his class. SSgt Argueta was assigned as the Company Radio Chief in May 2011. In August 2011, his communications structures during exercise Javelin Thrust at Bridgeport, CA, were integral during casualty evacuations which saved multiple Marines' lives.
In October 2012, SSgt Argueta, was assigned as Company Gunnery Sergeant (CoGySgt) and filled dual billets as Company Radio Chief and CoGySgt. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) in August 2014.
In September 2015, H&S Company, 2/23 Marines was gapped both a Company 1stSgt and an Inspector-Instructor 1stSgt. GySgt Argueta filled both roles until April 2016, and continued to serve as Company 1stSgt until August of 2016. GySgt Argueta reverted back to CoGySgt in September 2016, and then solely to Company Radio Chief in March of 2017.
In April of 2018, GySgt Argueta was reassigned to CoGySgt and deployed with the unit to the Western Pacific region on Unit Deployment 19.1 in June 2018 under III MEF. GySgt Argueta was Frocked as First Sergeant (1stSgt) May 31, 2019.
In June 2019, 1stSgt Argueta was assigned as Company 1stSgt for Company B, 4th Tank BN, 4thMarDiv in Yakima, WA.
In March 2021, 1stSgt Argueta was reassinged as Detachment First Sergeant for Detachment A (FWD), Marine Wing Communications Squadron 48, Marine Air Control Group 48, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW). 1stSgt Argueta was Frocked as Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) April 19, 2023.
In May 2023, SgtMaj Argueta was assigned as Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Air Support Squadron 6, Marine Air Control Group 48, 4th MAW, where he currently serves.
SgtMaj Argueta has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Stanford University, and a Master of Science in Leadership and Management, with a Concentration in Organizational Development from the University of La Verne.
SgtMaj Argueta's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Third Award), and various other Service and Campaign medals.
