Major Michael W. Knapp
Inspector-Instructor, Supply Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 451

Major Knapp joined the Marine Corps under the Delayed Entry Program in Nov 1987; and went to boot camp June 8, 1988.  Upon graduating from boot camp, Major Knapp attended the Basic Engineer Course.  Major Knapp completed 12 and half years of enlisted service and attended Officer Candidate School in Jan ’01.  Upon graduating in April 2001, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Also in April 2001, Second Lieutenant Knapp checked in to The Basic School. Upon completion of The Basic School he reported to the Ground Supply Officer Course at Camp Johnson, NC in October 2001. After graduating from Supply School in Jan 2002, Second Lieutenant Knapp reported to Combat Service Support Group-3, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he was assigned as the Group Supply Officer. 

Second Lieutenant Knapp participated in several exercises while in Hawaii, Cobra Gold, Crocodile, and HCAX.  He deployed in October ’04 to Afghanistan and served with the J-4, CJTF-76. Upon returning from deployment in April 2005, then First Lieutenant Knapp was transferred to 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, Garden City, New York.  He was frocked to Captain June ’05. 

In December ’05, Captain Knapp went TAD to 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, who had activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During this tour, Captain Knapp served as H&S Company Executive Officer, and was in charge of the all the Entry Control Points of the city of Fallujah. In addition to these duties Captain Knapp was also in charge of Camp Guard, Camp Baharia, Fallujah. He returned from Iraq October ’06. 

Upon returning from Iraq, Captain Knapp returned to his duties with 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, where he immediately began planning for the MARFOREUR exercise, Shared Accord. In June ’07, Captain Knapp deployed to Senegal and conducted joint security cooperation exercises with the Senegalese Army.  After completion of this exercise, planning for the activation of 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines began in earnest. 

Capt Knapp extended with 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines in order to activate and deploy with the unit.  In May ’08, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In June ’08, Capt Knapp was assigned to MTT 0731 and reported to Advisor Training Group, I MEF for training.  Upon completion of the training in Oct ’08, he deployed with his team to Al Anbar province, and served with the 7th Iraqi Division at Haditha Dam, Hit, and Baghdadi. Capt Knapp returned from deployment May ’09 and transferred to 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton July ’09 where he was assigned as Regimental Supply Officer. 

In the fall of ’09, Captain Knapp was selected for Major and was reassigned to 1st Maint Bn July ’10, where he served as a Company Commander and Battalion S-3.  Captain Knapp was promoted to his current rank Sept ’11.  In June ’12, Major Knapp was assigned to his current billet. 

Major Knapp’s personal decorations include the Purple Heart, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (V), and Combat Action Ribbon.
