First Sergeant Don Carney completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, in October 1981. He was then assigned to Bravo Company, Infantry Training School, Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In December 1981, First Sergeant Carney reported to Weapons Company (Assault Platoon), 2nd Battalion 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Garden City, N.Y. During the next approximately 8 years, First Sergeant Carney held the billets of assistant gunner, gunner, section leader and platoon sergeant. In December 1991, First Sergeant Carney mobilized with Weapons Company for Operation Desert Storm. After demobilizing, First Sergeant Carney left the USMCR to pursue his law enforcement career.

In October 2004, First Sergeant Carney rejoined the USMCR and was assigned to 6th MT Bn, 4th MLG (Hazmat Detachment ESD Detachment Delta) at Red Bank, N.J. While at ESD Detachment Delta, First Sergeant Carney participated in Operation Trade Winds in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, training local militia, police and fire personnel in WMD/Hazmat Operations and Confined Space Rescue in Belize, Dominican Republic and Antigua.

Concurrently from 2005 through 2008, First Sergeant Carney received ADSW orders for the US Central Command and US Joint Forces Command Personal Security Detachments, protecting Commanding Generals during numerous missions to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Qatar. As well as missions to Macedonia, Slovenia, Australia, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Singapore and England.

In 2009, First Sergeant Carney deployed to Iraq with US Central Command/Marine Central Command Multi National Force-Iraq, Chief of Staff’s Personal Security Detachment as the team chief, conducting over 150 protection missions in and around Baghdad.

In 2012, First Sergeant Carney deployed, with Combat Logistics Battalion 2, as the Engineer Company Gunnery Sergeant, to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. First Sergeant Carney participated in approximately 50 combat logistics patrols as well as his collateral duty as CLB 2 Commanding Officer’s PSD Commander.

In December 2015, First Sergeant Carney was assigned to Security Battalion Quantico as the Guard Chief. There, he supervised the execution of law enforcement operations aboard MCB Quantico.

In August 2017, First Sergeant Carney was assigned to Weapons Company 2/25.  In May 2018, he was assigned to his current billet as First Sergeant for Golf Company 2/25. His personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.

First Sergeant Carney is married, with two children, and is a recently retired Detective with over 32 years law enforcement experience
