Sergeant Major Miguel Villegas
Inspector-Instructor Sergeant Major, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines

Sergeant Major Miguel Villegas is a native of Guadalajara, Mexico. On 29 July 1998, he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training, he attended Basic Motor Transport Maintenance School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina to be trained as a Basic Diesel Engine Mechanic 3521.

Upon graduation he was ordered to 1st Maintenance Battalion, Motor Transport Maintenance Company where he served as Maintenance Contact Team mechanic and Team leader. On 1 Oct 2001, he was promoted to Sergeant.

On Sept 2002, he received orders to Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Company E, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.

On April 2006, he transferred to H&S Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, where he served as the Maintenance Chief. On Sept 2006, he deployed with the 15th MEU/BLT 2/4 in support of OIF 5-6, and on 1 October 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On January 2008, Sergeant Major Villegas was assigned to Military Transition Team (MiTTs) 0712 and deployed to Iraq to serve as the MiTTs S-4 Chief, and mentored the Iraqi Army Sergeant Major and Company 4 on Combat Operations in Basra, Iraq, during Operation Charge of the Knights.

On April 2009, he was transferred to Marine Corps Base Japan, H&S Battalion, where he served as the Maintenance Chief. In January 2011, Sergeant Major Villegas volunteered for an Individual Augment deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of OEF, where he served as Vehicle and Aircraft End-Use Monitoring Team Chief as part of Combined Security Transition Joint Command, from January 2011 to August 2011.

On June 2012, he was transferred to Seal Beach, California, for I&I duty with 5th Battalion, 14th Marines and served as the Battalion Maintenance Chief.

On April 2014, he was transferred to Officer Candidate School, Quantico Virginia for duty as a Sergeant Instructor, Company C. On 26 April 2015, he was frocked to First Sergeant and served as Company I, Company First Sergeant.

On August 2015, he transferred to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines and deployed with BLT 2/4 on the 31st MEU, with Weapons Company.  On April 2018 deployed in support of Marine Rotational Forces Darwin with Headquarters and Service Company.

On 2 October 2019 Sergeant Major Villegas was frocked and on 4 November 2019 reported to for duty to 3d Battalion, 25th Marines where he currently serves as the Inspector Instructor Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Villegas’ personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
