Sergeant Major James E. Gorczynski

A native of New Jersey, Sergeant Major Gorczynski attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC on 1 November, 1998.  

Following Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, NC.  Sergeant Major Gorczynski reported to the Artillery Cannoneer School, Fort Sill, OK where he earned the Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) of Artillery Cannoneer (0811).

Sergeant Major Gorczynski first duty station was 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, Kaneohe Bay, HI.  Upon reporting in he was reassigned to Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA for duty.  While assigned to Alpha Battery, Sergeant Major Gorczynski went on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Special Operations Capable, from 2000 to 2001, as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom in March 2003.

In March 2004 Sergeant Major Gorczynski reported to Marine Security Guard School, Quantico, VA.  Where he served at the United States Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, Lima, Peru, and Singapore, Singapore.  

Upon completion of the Marine Security Guard duty in March 2007, Sergeant Major Gorczynski received orders to Golf Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he held the billets of Howitzer Section chief, Platoon Sergeant, and Martial Arts Instructor.  He deployed with the 11th MEU a part of BLT 3/5 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 1 October, 2008.  

In May of 2010 Sergeant Major Gorczynski received orders to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group as a Detachment Commander.  Upon completion of the school he was assigned as the Detachment Commander for U.S Consulate, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and U.S Embassy Ankara, Turkey.  

In August 2013, Sergeant Major Gorczynski received orders to India Battery, 1st Battalion, 10th Marines, Camp Lejeune, NC, holding the billets of Platoon Sergeant, and Battery Gunnery Sergeant During his tenure at 10th Marines he deployed with the 24th MEU a part of BLT 3/6.  On 1 July 2015, Sergeant Major Gorczynski was promoted the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  

Upon return from the 24th MEU in 2015, Sergeant Major Gorczynski received orders to Company B, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In March of 2018 Sergeant Major Gorczynski received orders to Plans Policies and Operations (PP&O) as a Watch Chief for the Marine Corps Operations Center.  

Sergeant Major Gorczynski was promoted to First Sergeant on 1 July 2019, subsequently he reported on August 1st 2019 to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base Quantico as a Company First Sergeant.  While at Headquarter Battalion he served in Service Company, Headquarters Company as well as the acting Sergeant Major.

In July 2021, Sergeant Major Gorczynski received orders to, III Marine Information Group, 3d Intelligence Battalion to serve as a Company First Sergeant.

Sergeant Major Gorczynski was promoted to his current rank on 1 July 2023 and reported to Site Support 25th Marine Regiment 4th Marine Division Brook park, OH on 09 Jun 2023 as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

Personnel Awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of second award,  Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal in lieu of eighth award), and National Defense Medal.
