Sergeant Major Michael J. Dumelle

Sergeant Major Michael J. Dumelle is a native of Rockville Centre. Sergeant Major Dumelle enlisted in the Marine Corps on February 8th, 1994 and shipped to Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island on March 1st, 1994. He graduated from Boot Camp on May 20th, 1994.

Upon completing Marine Combat Training in June 1994 on Camp Lejeune, he reported to Marine Corps Communications and Electronics School in 29 Palms California where he was promoted to Private First Class. Once he completed Air Defense Control Operator Course, he was transferred to Marine Air Control Squadron 6 at Cherry Point, North Carolina. 

During his tour at Cherry Point, he participated in numerous Combined Arms Exercises in 29 Palms California, and Weapons and Tactics Instructions at MCAS Yuma, Arizona.  In January of 1995, Lance Corporal Dumelle deployed to South America to work alongside Ecuadorian military personnel in the US Southern Command Area of Operations.  While deployed he was assigned to a team that was responsible for advising host nation personnel on the use of radar sites to assist with ongoing drug – interdiction operations.  In January 1996, Corporal Dumelle deployed to Pucallpa, Peru to take part in Operation Laserstrike, a joint counter drug operation in US Southern Command’s Area of Operations.

In March 1998, Sergeant Dumelle transferred to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve and joined Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines as a machine gunner (0331).  After the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, Sergeant Dumelle volunteered as a member of a small detachment of New York area Marines to assist with security at Ground Zero under the supervision of the New York Naval Militia and FEMA.  In January 2002 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines was activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom / Operation Noble Eagle.  During the activation, he served as a machine gun section leader after graduating from the Advanced Machine Gun Leader Course at School of Infantry - East.  

In March 2003, Sergeant Dumelle was again mobilized and deployed to Iraq for combat operations as a machine gun section leader during Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  After OIF-I, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and remained on active duty orders and served as the New York City Hometown Link for the Marine For Life Program.  In May 2008, Staff Sergeant Dumelle was activated and mobilized for a third time and deployed to Iraq for combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-2.  During this deployment he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served as Platoon Commander, Mobile Assault Platoon - 1.      

From 2009 to 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Dumelle served as the Company Operations Chief for Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines.  He was promoted to First Sergeant in June 2012 and subsequently given orders to Battery G, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines, where he took over as the Battery First Sergeant.  In May 2015, he was given orders to Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines.

Sergeant Major Dumelle was frocked to his current rank on June 1, 2017 and given orders to 4th Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major until June 2019. Sergeant Major Dumelle was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 25 in June 2019, completing that tour in June of 2022.  In June 2022 Sergeant Major Dumelle assumed the duties of Battalion 
Sergeant Major of Combat Logistics Battalion 451.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Combat Action Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.
