Gen. Frank Grass pens open letter encouraging survey participation

3 Sep 2015 | Gen. Frank J. Grass

WASHINGTON - One of my primary objectives is to ensure National Guard members are provided the best work environment possible. One way to help us assess and understand your military workplace experiences is through surveys. A letter inviting you to participate in the Congressionally mandated 2015 Workplace and Gender Relations Survey of Reserve Component Members was recently sent to you. This survey is available to a selected group of National Guard members as part of a scientifically based sample of Reserve Component members. If you have completed the survey, thank you for your time. If not, please take time to complete it today. It is the only survey the Department of Defense (DoD) uses to measure our workplace and gender experiences.

The National Guard remains committed to combatting these unwanted gender-related behaviors. This survey is critical to helping us understand the presence or absence of these problems in the military workplace. The survey is voluntary, and completely confidential. The DoD is promising full confidentiality to those selected to participate in this survey. We need as many responses as possible for the results to be valid. These results will be used to develop policies that support you and your fellow Guard members.

Although participation is voluntary, I hope you are willing to find a few minutes to answer the questions about your experiences. This survey is considered official business, and can be completed using your government computer or your personal computer. This critical survey will be the only one of its kind given to the Reserves and National Guard this year. To see if you have been selected as part of the sample, go to the Defense Manpower Data Center Web site, https: //www.dmdc.osd.mil/ dodsurvey. Select the button "Am I in the WGRR Sample?" and then enter your "DoD ID Number" from the back of your Common Access Card.

Thank you for your time and assistance in this very important effort.

Sincerely,

Frank J. Grass
General, U.S. Army
Chief, National Guard Bureau
