Private Kevin Dickhut enlisted in the Marine Corps in Kansas City, Missouri in 1999, he reported to recruit training in training at MRCD San Diego, California in August of 2000 and subsequently graduated in October 2000. Upon graduation, Private Dickhut attended Marine Combat training at Camp Pendleton, California.

Private Dickhut was transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for training as a Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense Specialist. Upon completion of MOS school, Private First Class Dickhut reported for duty with MAG-12 in April 2001. There he worked at the NBC section managing the NBC warehouse, conducting NBC training and running the units Monitor, Survey, and Decontamination course. During his time at MAG-12, he attended numerous training exercises in Japan, Thailand, South Korea and numerous other South Asian countries. He was promoted to Cpl in January 2003. In June 2004, he was promoted to Sgt and was placed as the MAG-12 Platoon Sergeant where he managed personnel and tasks given by command deck while continuing his NBC duties.

In April 2005, Sergeant Dickhut reported for duty at Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear MOS school for duties as a formal school instructor. Sergeant Dickhut instructed hundreds of basic 5711's and 5702's during his time as an instructor. While during his time there, he became the first non SNCO to receive TECOM certification as a Master Instructor. Sergeant Dickhut was promoted to Staff Sergeant on March 2008 right before departing the schoolhouse.

In April 2008, Staff Sergeant Dickhut reported to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, aboard Camp Lejeune, NC. Where he served within Force Reconnaissance Company and as the Battalion Operations Chief. During his time there he obtained qualifications in several areas to include Basic Parachutist and Helicopter Rope Specialist Technique (HRST) Master.

In June 2010 Staff Sergeant Dickhut was screened and recruited to Naval Special Warfare Development Group, where he worked in research and development of new CBRN equipment and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures. Staff Sergeant Dickhut was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in October 2012. During his time there he received numerous qualifications to include Marine Corps Multi-Parachute (MMPC) certification.

In November 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Dickhut reported to HQMC, Combat Development and Instruction (CD&I), where he worked as a CBRN Capabilities Integration Officer, helping to execute Joint Integration Development Capabilities for the Marine Corps. On March of 2018 Gunnery Sergeant Dickhut was promoted to First Sergeant.

First Sergeant Dickhut reported to Chemical Biological Incident Response Force in April 2018, where he became the Reaction Force Company 1stSgt, followed by Alpha Company 1stSgt when the Reaction forces split. In December 2019, First Sergeant Dickhut was moved to Headquarters and Service Company. 1stSgt Dickhut was selected to SgtMaj in November 2021.

In December 2021, SgtMaj reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 24 in Virginia Beach where he is currently assigned as the Site SgtMaj.

First Sergeant Dickhut's personal decorations include: the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon and various other Service and Campaign medals.
