Sergeant Major Cary is a native of Malden Mass, he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in 1999.
He has been meritoriously promoted to the ranks of lance corporal, corporal, and gunnery sergeant.
Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Cary has been assigned numerous duties to include: squad leader, platoon sergeant, drill instructor, senior drill instructor, series gunnery sergeant, battalion drill master, embedded training team leader, company gunnery sergeant, company first sergeant, and battalion sergeant major.
He has deployed to Fallujah Iraq with II Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005, with 3d Battalion 6th Marines to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010, with 2d Battalion 8th Marines to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013, again with 2d Battalion 8th Marines to Spain in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa, with 2d Battalion 6th Marines in support of Hurricane Relief for the aftermath of hurricanes’ Irma and Maria in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico in 2017, again with 2d Battalion 6th Marines as a Battalion Landing Team for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2018.
Sergeant Major Cary’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of third award, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Military Outstanding Voluntary Service Medal.
Sergeant Major Cary holds an Associate’s Degree in Arts from Campbell University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trident University.
Sergeant Major Cary’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, and is proud New England Patriots fan. He and his wife have four children.
